Cruise control lever replacement? Add wiper delay?
Cruise control lever replacement? Add wiper delay?
So my Cruise control lever/wiper control lever is broke on my 86 Camaro. The switch isn't broke, just the plastic behind the window washer lever so that the lever hangs down and looks bad.
My first question is can I change just the lever w/o changing the turning signal switch and taking the steering wheel all apart? Does the lever just pop out?
2nd Q is my car only has 2 speeds for its wipers, high and low. I found this lever, http://www.1aauto.com/1A/cruise-cont...CC00001/465356 Its says with delays which I am guessing means more speeds. Will this work with my car only having high and low?
3rd Q is does anyone know if it would be hard to add more wiper speeds to my car. Low is too fast for light rain and I constantly have to turn it on and off and it drives me crazy! Thanks!

Re: Cruise control lever replacement? Add wiper delay?
Ok so I found out through study that you do not having to take the steering wheel off and stuff but still need to know if anyone has tried to add wiper delays so I'm not just stuck with high and low. And if that stick will work until I get what is need to make the full conversion. Thanks!

I feel like I'm having a conversation with myself... lol
Ok, more studying. If I get http://www.1aauto.com/1A/WindshieldW...29/374347/1986
and
http://www.1aauto.com/1A/cruise-control-lever/Chevy/Camaro/1AZCC00001/465356
I looked for a wiper motor with delays and couldn't find one so I assume they are all the same. Does anyone one know if this is all that it would take to convert the wipers to have delays?

Yes, you would have to take apart the steering column. The wiper switch has to be changed to add the delay function.
The wiper motors themselves are the same, provided you remember that they switched motor styles in 88.. The black covers on them (known as the timer covers) are not. The black cover on yours needs to be replaced with a timer cover to add the delay function.
Only then can you just pop in the turn signal stalk with the wiper delay function.

Re: Cruise control lever replacement? Add wiper delay?
Thanks for the reply! I knew there would be something else! Would it be something like this then? http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/che...r-motor-cover/ I'm guess pulse is the same as delay.. I wonder if I can find one at a junk yard for cheaper.
Do you know if the dalay timing cover would be a direct switch where mind doesn't have the delays or would I have to modify anything? Thanks!

Re: Cruise control lever replacement? Add wiper delay?
I need to look up the wiring diagrams in the FSM, but I think it's a direct swap. Just undo the 4 screws holding the cover on, pop out the washer pump (if your washer pump isn't in the bottle), and put the new cover on following the directions that come with it (if any). There is a part on the gears that needs to be lined up with a lever in the cover, so pay attention.
And yes, you can get a whole wiper motor for cheaper than you can get the replacement timer cover for. If I was sure I still had my old one, I'd sell it for cheap (switched to the later style wiper motor and bottle). Got the replacement from the J/Y for $20.

Well, I looked it up... The wiring is the same. No, I don't have my old motor.
