1991 Z28 Blower Motor Wiring Questions
Hey folks, got a blower motor problem. To attack the issue, I have purchased a new switch and blower motor (cheap enough and worth replacing regardless of actual issue).
The problem: when I turn on heat or ac, the blower motor does not turn on in any speed setting.
Tonight I replaced the switch and had no results. Therefore I thought I would move on to the motor. While unscrewing some screws, I noticed a very long orange single wire not connected to anything. Where the orange wire runs into the plastic wire protector, there is a red wire that isn't plugged into anything either. I decided to stop here and ask some pro's.
1. What should be connected to this read wire (see picture below)?
2. The orange wire starts with a plug right next to the red wire (2) and is long enough to reach the battery but the other end is not plugged into anything (2 continued).
Any ideas?

Re: 1991 Z28 Blower Motor Wiring Questions
I asked about the red wire because mine wasn't connected to anything also. Consensus was everyone has it unconnected and must be for diagnostic.
It's dark now. If no one figures out the orange, I'll check the car tomorrow.
Edit: Here's the pic I used when I asked. Hard to make out but the orange is connected to something.

An orange wire should run from the HI speed position of the switch to the blower relay. The blower relay also has a red wire connected to it which comes from a fusible link which would connect either to a distribution block attached to the radiator support, or to the starter. A previous owner may have disconnected them due to a short condition, so be careful when putting things back together.
This link goes to a schematic and the blower motor is on the right, with the selector switch on the top right.

Your #2 wire pictured should be attached to the hood support and run along the base of the hood to a light, should have a fuse in line where it comes out of the harness. The other wire pictured doesn't look familiar since the relay would have a weather pack connector with 4 wires attached to it.

Excellent, thanks Al. I will be looking more at this tomorrow (barring any rain) and will advise.

Not able to work on this further tonight due to a nasty drizzle outside. It was bad enough that I had to hook up the boat so I can take it for winterizing tomorrow...

the red wire goes to the fuel pump relay, its a test circuit. you apply 12v to the red wire and the pump runs.

Thanks for the help guys. After tracking it down, it was the blower motor itself that was shot. Replaced it and it's all good.
Re: 1991 Z28 Blower Motor Wiring Questions
I did an LS Swap about 7 years ago on my car (90 RS Convertible), and am just getting around to tying up some loose ends on it and that is the one connector under the hood (pass side engine compartment by blower motor/heater that I can't figure out.
Thanks for any and all help

Red = battery for the HVAC blower motor high speed
Black = blower motor ground
Light green & dark green = AC compressor (one is going FROM the control head in the dash TO the low pressure cutoff, other is FROM the switch TO the compressor, can't recall which is which)

Couldn't find any close up pics from wy back when before the swap, and have just been scouring the web for engine bay pics (which some show this connector there, and some don't look like the car has it equipped).
Have had a few people mention that their car has one, but it's also not plugged into anything, just loose..... so wasn't sure if it was something equipped but not originally used in mine (as it doesn't really look like it was ever plugged into anything)...... for example, my car is a convertible, but has all the wiring/connector under the dash for a rear defroster. Was also a non-fog light car, but has all that wiring/connector under there as well.
Thanks again!
Re: 1991 Z28 Blower Motor Wiring Questions
In the third picture you uploaded with the blower motor connector and relay....... any chance you'd have or be able to provide a pic of what the other connector (4 wire, blue red green black) that is shown connects to and/or how it is mounted. Trying to solve some wiring mysteries on my car (did an LS-1 swap about 7 years ago and just getting back to fine tuning some mechanical stuff). From the posts I've put across social media and my online findings, it's apparently a 50/50 shot if the connecter was ever in fact connected in people's cars (some had it equipped, but not actually connected to anything, and some could not identify what it actually connects to). Mine looks as if it was never plugged into anything.
Thanks for your time either way
