so my 89 GTA is in my parents garage not running, has been there since october. main reason i believe to be the effed up wiring.

i don't have spark, and the distrib is only getting half voltage. ran a jumper wire to the distrib connector directly from the batt to apply 12v and still no spark.

the car has had 7 different owners, and the wiring inside and out is all hacked up and rigged.

instead of chasing this mess, i'd just like to get new harnesses. however, i think i may just do an engine swap with a newer LS, but i would like the interior harness. anybody have any ideas as to where i could find that? or advice? i love this car, and i'd hate to get rid of it because of this reason. but i think it may not leave me a choice. please help me keep her!!

 

Have you done the tests of dist components to see where the fault lies?

i've done so many tests. i'm sick of testing, and if i were to fix it, how long would it be before some other electrical issue pops up?

 

changing out the underhood engine harness is cake, youd have to change that anyway for the LS swap. if you want to change the INTERIOR harness, thats a lot more involved, but not impossible.

 

well, both engine and interior harnesses have been badly abused, and i think that's a huge reason why the car won't get spark. not to mention i have the fuel pump/ecm relay running off a fused jumper wire from the battery. that's how it was when i bought it.

i think i'd be best off just going with some sort of LS swap with that wiring harness/PCM. and getting a interior wiring harness that's in good shape.

 

sometimes replacing the hacked wiring is the best option. no telling what all has been hacked. changing the interior harness requires pretty much pulling out the dash.

 

Trust me!!!!!!!! Keep it! I sold my 1st one and it took forever 2 find another one in halfway descent shape. Just keep up the fight. Youll get it in the long run!
