Check engine light

1988 camaro 2.8... Ok all my guages are wrong and I am in the middle of finding a replacement cluster. But in the mean time is there a way I can make a check engine light?

Mine doesnt work on cluster and I cant get it to. so I was thinking is there a way I can plug into the wires that signal the check engine light and see if I get it come on that way?

Re: Check engine light

I think I can do it if I can find a gauge cluster pin out. by finding the signal wire for the engine light then grounding the other.

Re: Check engine light

Does any one know if that will work... Ive tried tracing the check engine light wire into the ecm and probing it and I still dont get any light to light up or flash.

Re: Check engine light

what makes you think it should be on? if the car is not throwing a code it will not come on, only when you first start it will it glow.

Well for one when I turn on the key It doesnt even come on at all not even for a few seconds. WHen I jump A and B on the connector I get nothing at all. Bulb isnt burned out.

Trying to figure out why its not working.
.
What I am trying to figure it is if there is a way to bypass the cluster bulb and use a test light or another source to see if its the ECM thats messed up/

Re: Check engine light

in your first post you stated your gauges were messed up,is it possible you have a bad ground on the cluster?

Maybe so? I havent checked.. I just know I get no indicator lights what so ever . No brake, choke, check engine, seatbelt. None of those lights work.

Might sound like a dumb question where is the ground for the cluster at? Is it one of the wire clips that plug to the back of it?
