Mini starter suggestions?
I've been having a problem with my camaro that sometimes after running it hard it doesn't want to crank back up easily. The engine drags as if the timing is out or the battery is dead.
Someone told me recently that I probably need a mini spool starter because of my headers heating up the regular sized starter to much.
Anyone have any suggestions on this? I'm looking on summit and prices range a large amount for the mini starters, as cheap as 115 or as much as 600. My engine only has a 9.5:1 compression, so would one like this work and possibly fix my problem?

Thanks!
EDIT:
Well that one is out of stock juts noticed, this one is made by the same company and is a few dollars more, but I don't really seen any difference in it:

Re: Mini starter suggestions?
What I'm trying to figure out on these atm is if a smaller or larger gear reduction ratio is better.
The above linked tuff stuff starter is 6:1, if I'm reading that right it means it takes 6 turns of the starter to equal one turn of the flywheel. Then there are ones like this one:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-67050/
That have a 4.40:1 ratio, so that would mean less turns of the starter to turn the flywheel.
Am I correct in interpreting it as less turns = less power used = better?
And there is also this one, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWM-9100/ which has an even lower ratio at 3.75:1 but doesn't seem quite as small as the others, and also only does 10:1 max compression ratio. I'd be worried about that getting a little to close to my 9.5:1, would like to leave a little more clearance just in case hehe.

Re: Mini starter suggestions?
Higher reduction number means more leverage ; more cranking power ; MORE GRUNT
The KW rating is what power it uses

A local race shop has a Hitachi, don't know much else about it but they generally stock higher end more popular parts. It's 149 so cheaper than the proform but more than the tuff stuff.
Not sure which one I should get...

Hitachi is known Japanese quality; most likely a copy of the Denso (Japanese ) mini starter used on the LT1 and late L98 in Vettes

Lol that's the thing about it, tuff stuff at least claims to be american made and assembled. I'll probably just end up getting the hitachi at the local race shop. That way if it doesn't fix my problem I can probably take it back to them. Summit has a good return policy and all, but I'd still have to pay for shipping back to them.

I've used the stock LT1 starter on my 11 to 1 comp 383. Started just fine. Cheap too. Just in case you wanted to save some money

I few people I know are running tuff stuff starters and have had no issues and also run long tubes too.
