Blown Acc Fuse Cause

First off, yes, it happens when I try to use my lighter. I pulled the lighter socket out and found that it rattled like crazy. I found a new used lighter assembly that was still in good shape and installed it. However, again, first time I pushed the lighter in it popped the fuse. Fiddle sticks.

Now, I'm not a smoker, but I do wish to locate the cause of this issue. I like to have everything in good running order. Everyone knows it's a common problem and it's all over our message boards, but does anybody know a good place to start with trouble shooting it, besides the socket since I've already replaced that? I scoured the boards and haven't found anything besides "replace the fuse, unplug your lighter," etc, etc.
I do have a few wire diagrams I can use to guide me, but if there is previously known trouble-making wire it would come in handy to know about it.

Thanks.

Re: Blown Acc Fuse Cause

Try plugging in your phone or MP3 player charger and see if doing that will blow the fuse.

This will isolate it to either the socket, lighter or whether you need to start looking else where.

Paulo, that is brilliant. Madden, that is an awful idea. Risk burning up the wiring AND my car? That is a poor solution.

Re: Blown Acc Fuse Cause

Instead of a used socket, probably with the same issues, put in a new one from a parts store. You may have to use a different connector on your harness, it's just two wires - this is the route I took for mine...
