This is my nightmare, I will post updated photos of this horrible mess in a little bit. I can't get the fuel pump to come on, before that it was a bad TPS sensor so I replaced that. When I replaced the sensor the fuel pump would not come on. There are so many hacks and splices on this thing I don't even know where to start. I have the VATS bypassed I think? I have the correct resistors on the key cylinder wires. I need to bypass the Neutral safety switch....I think i have done that correctly...
using factory wire diagrams is a nightmare due to the fact that nothing on this car seems to be factory anymore....previous owner and owner before him modified this car so much I'm just at a complete loss for words...

some more pics
even more pics....can someone tell me what the four prong connector is? I have no idea...

anyone?
OMG what a nightmare, the things people do to cars when they do not know what they are doing.

The four prong connector goes to the transmission look up... located directly above the pan on the drivers side

It doesn't look too bad. I've seen far worse. My suggestion is to start at one end of the loom and start fixing it one connection at a time and re split looming it. Before you know it a couple weeks later it looks great again. It does look like its all there which is good.

it looks like spaghetti in there. youve got your work cut out for you. no pun intended, lol.
a friend of mine went through the same thing. he put his motor/tranny in, and then realized what a mess he had going on. he got frustrated and pulled his motor and tranny back out and sold the car for $75.oo!
it looks like whoever had that car before you, really didnt know what they were doing. wire nuts and cheap crimp connectors are not the best way to go. i like soldering and heat-shrink wrap.
i wonder how much a new or decent used harness would cost? just an idea.

I've fixed about four or five looms like that so far with soldering and shrink wrap and the high heat split loom. The good thing to remember is you can now route the wires where you want and clean up what the factory didnt
Make sure and keep us updated.
thanks all for the comments, I will try and repair this one as I cannot find a decent replacement harness for an 89...all harnesses I have found are $300-600 dollars...barf...and thats just for certain parts of the harness, that doesn't include everything....I will keep this thread up to date as I repair it! thanks...
UPDATE...I started pulling the wire harness out today (will have pics tomorrow) It came out surprisingly easy, I have only one connection left and its behind the engine on the passenger side...is this a connector or a bolt holding the connection down? I can't seem to find a way to it without taking the distributer cap off? Maybe I'm missing something...any who, I will take the cabin harness out tomorrow and finish this removal up. I will then begin to identify which connectors I am missing or have been modified and why...I found that a lot of those aftermarket wires were dead ends (led me to no where) I will keep you guys up to date...

Good luck Brett, it sure looks a mess. I think though with patience and perserverance you should get it back together. If wiring diags aren't enough may I suggest finding some one with a similar car, trace those looms, and apply it to yours. If a new loom is too much $ then a trip to a pick and pull may be in order.

yep, I've been to some pick n pulls around little rock and all the good parts are taken...lol there is a group of guys up there that strip them when they come in...last time I went I was literally fighting for parts with those guys...they had batt powered tools (impacts and such) and I was armed with my handy dandy socket set (frown) so needless to say they got most of the parts before I could even get the dash apart...and they just took the pigtails (cut them).
Here are some updated photos of the harness and the car...engine bay looks better without all those wires flying everywhere...
