High Beam Issue

Have a headlight issue that I need some help with.

89 Camaro RS.

Highbeams won't come on. Low beams work fine.

When I use the dimmer switch, the dash indicator lights up and the filament in the low beam changes like it should. But the high beams simply won't come on.

That seems to tell me that the problem isn't in the headlight switch or the dimmer switch. But I'm also not a wiring/switches guy either so that assumption could be wrong. I don't think it's bad bulbs because both sides stopped working at the same time

I did some searches, but didn't find anything that fit my situation.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on how/what to check?

Re: High Beam Issue

It's hard to say what is going on with out being there, but from what you have said, I would start by replacing my headlight bulbs. When you said the filament changed but no highbeams, that made me think wrong head light or bad headlight....

Re: High Beam Issue

If I swap a high-beam into a low-beam slot, could I use that as a method for checking the high beam bulbs?

It just seems odd that both highs would go at the same time.

Re: High Beam Issue

your right, it is odd but you must start some where....replacement headlights is where i would start... Advance auto will take back your lights if you find out thats not the problem.. so start there... after that, try dimmer switch..... another return item if you dont need..... trial and error....

Re: High Beam Issue

I had a similar problem with my 88. Both headlites wouldn't work?? It was both headlites. haha
And after replacing the dimmer on the column and the pull switch in the dash. then i tried some older high-beam bulbs i had.... i felt humbled.
now i had a short in the whole system when i leave the high beams on for 60 seconds or so. any suggestions there??
