Several Problems Need Help!

First of all, I am a full time college student, so lengthy repairs are not easy for me. I don't have much time to work on my car, but I need to fix these things.
Vehicle: 1989 Trans Am GTA 5.0L TPI

1) I rebuilt my headlight motors and they work fine. However, when I turn on my headlight both raise, but when I turn them off, only the drivers side goes down. I can turn the passenger side manually, so it lowers. When I turn the headlights on, and slightly lower the passenger headlight manually, then hit the switch, they both go down. I had a suspicion that the headlight control module is at fault, I grabbed a used one and that didn't work at all, so I don't know if mine is good, or partially bad.

2) I spent close to $600 for a new a/c system, and it works fine... when it wants to. Sometimes when I turn the car on, the a/c works right away. Other times it wont turn on for 5-10 minutes, I cant tell if it turns on when the car is fully warmed up, or just randomly. Also it sometimes blows very very softly, and if I floor it, it will blow harder for a little bit. It doesn't matter if I have it on max, normal, bi-lev, vent, or heat. All positions yield the same problem.

3) My wipers work fine, but it seems that when I turn them on lo or hi the fuse blows. The variable intermittent setting works fine, as does the mist setting. I don't want to diagnose this by blowing fuses, but when I turn it on lo or hi, they stop working and the fuse blows.

Another thing, of my fuses are of the right size and don't blow other than the wipers. I have located several relays in the car and would like to know what they are for. There are 2 by the drivers side firewall with part numbers 14089936 on them, they also have 8336 on them. There are another 2 located by the passenger headlight inside the engine compartment. One is bolted to the fender, the other is laying there. They also have the same part number 14089936 and 8336. There is another relay next to the a/c condenser, by the passenger firewall with numbers 1410304 and 8322. Can anyone tell me what these relays are for?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help.

We’ll pick the AC problem, and hopefully others will chime in for the other problems.

On the AC, make some pressure measurements to make sure the is enuff refrigerant.

When it’s 75° out, the low side pressure should be approximately 37 PSI, and the high side should be approximately 160 PSI.

However some of the wording you used makes it sound like the problem is the blower motor.

You can respond by saying if the air volume is the complaint, or the air temperature.

The air volume is definitely the problem. Sorry if I confused you, the temp is fine.

Connect a low cost analogue voltmeter (because they respond faster) across the blower motor, and make the leads long enuff for you to see the meter in the cockpit.

Now the next time the blower slows you will be able to see if it’s the voltage circuit, or if you need a new blower.

Re: Several Problems Need Help!

If the fuses only blow in the higher position on the wiper it is a short in the switch or the motor. I would check the leads at the switch first.

Re: Several Problems Need Help!

I took the car to a firestone on a last ditch fix, they said that the motor is fine and that there is a short in the column. they said that they dont have the tools to fix it, which i think is complete B.S. I needed a quick fix so i told them to rig a switch, and apparently they cant do that either. long story short, i still have no wipers. the fuses first started blowing when i would put them on high or low, and then they blew whenever i turned the wipers on. now, they dont work at all.
my turn signals work, do you think that the switch could still be bad?

Disconnect the purple wire at the wiper motor.

Now, does the fuse still blow?

If NO, do you still have intermittent?

Happy Racing!
