Power widows just stopped....
Power widows just stopped....
Okay so its a nice warm day in florida, I am in the middle of moving to a new home. I start rolling down my windows to get some nice cool air circulating in the car and halfway down they stop dead. No longer able to go up or down....
Okay so here is some more info.
For starters nothing has been touched in the last few months this problem is totally random and out of the blue...
I have an alarm system wired to my car. It has been in for almost 3 years now never gave a problem but here is where stuff gets weird. When I hit my power window button the door locks, the alarm led will stay lit until i let go and the alarm chirps.... How this is happening is beyond me seeing as how my alarm is not tied to my windows in the least bit.
I unplugged the alarm and tried it but nothing happened, this time no door click or alarm chirp of course. It is just strange and I have no clue what to do. My car is sitting there with windows halfway down because the garage is full of boxes... If anyone has a clue or a quick fix please let me know!
Already tried:
Replaced the 30amp fuses under dash.

My money would be on the window motor. And if you replace the window motor, make sure to replace the regulator too because if the regulator is crap, it can fry a brand new motor very quickly (learned that one the hard way on my pickup)

Another thing to check would be the electrical connector on the motor. They usually have junk in them. I would clean it out and see if that helps.
Another thing to look into is running a standalone electrical system for the windows (Painless makes a kit). Everything I've read on them says they are much more efficient than the factory setup.

Since both windows stopped working instantly and at the same time, it is very unlikely that your motors went bad simultaneously and suddenly.
So before you go replacing window motors and doing a lot of unnecessary work, test that you have power at the window circuit breaker in the fuse box. It is not a standard blade fuse, it is a small metal box serving as a breaker.
If you have power on both sides of the breaker (with ignition on), check if it's still there with the window buttons pressed. Check both sides of the circuit breaker, that's important.
Let us know what you find.

You can test the breaker by turning the key to the RUN position, then use a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe the
12 AWG pink wire coming out of the Fuse Block, while pressing one of the Window Switches.
Was power there when you did that?
