engine revs way up wherever i turn it on

Hi guys,
So I just encountered this problem for the first time today and I can't figure out what the cause is. When I turn my car on the revs fly way up past the end of the gauge. I can't decipher any problem with the throttle plate or linkage, theyre sitting as they should be. This leave me thinking its the throttle positioning sensor? I tried to probe it with my voltmeter and am not getting any reading. Do you guys think this sounds like a tps problem? Could it be something else?
Thanks

Given you are reading the TPS voltage properly, getting nothing seems a little improbable. Make sure you are reading the right ports and if your voltage is all skew and you cant position the TPS in the optimum range, start there.

I have fiddled and retested. Still no results.

According to this thread no voltage confirms a dead tps.

well start from there then, if youre getting nothing. TPS's are super cheap anyways

I dunno if a hundred buck counts as super cheap, but I guess when you need the part you need the part..

Mine was like 125 from the dealer. I could have got one from Advance for 80 but I decided to go with the Delco part.

My car was idling at 1400 before I changed mine. Your car is redlining, or is it just the gauge going to 7k?

I think its close to redline, it revs really high and the needs is hitting the tack. But If I hit the gas pedal it still revs more. I didn't test this very much, worried about doing damage at that many revs. I just ordered a new part of napa's website for $90, they're closed today so hopefully they overnight it tomorrow and I can let you all know where I'm at on Tuesday. Thanks again!

Hope that fixes your issue. Does it change if you unplug your TPS?

Sort of, when I tried with the tps unplugged it ran really rough but near the right rpms for a few seconds before the rpms shot back up.

This may sound dumb, but check and make sure the gas pedal isn't caught on the under dash panel. That happened to me and left me scratching my head for a bit.
