82 to 84 Wiper motor
Alright guys, I DO NOT need a diagram unless its a pin-out diagram.. I have like 6 diagrams all which do not solve my problem. I do not have pigtails for the plugs but I am just running connectors until I purchase plugs. I need to know what wire goes to what. The only different wire I have seen on the 82' is I have double white (What appears white it is 30 years old after all)
Here are the plugs I need to know the wires for... I have the adjustable speed switch in car and on previous motor. (Sorry about giant freaking pictures.. phone issues)

In case you didn't know,.... That is an 84-87 style wiper motor, That motor is NOT compatable with your 82. Probably why the diagrams your looking at arn't helping as they should.
The wiper system in the 82-83 used a specific wiper motor - that is the motor that you should be working with.

Is there anyway to cross reference? What makes them incompatible? I'm in a predicament of my current motor is going out and knocking and I have like 3 of these laying around.

They are simply not compatable systems.
If you attempt to try and mount that 84-87 Wiper motor in any 82 or 83 you will find that it doesn't fit the firewall properly.

Well that completely sucks!! I had to have first year model lol. Thank you for helping me out. Hopefully I'll figure something out.
Re: 82 to 84 Wiper motor
the main problem was something to this affect. 82-83 sent power through the switch to motor, 84-up used the switch to ground the motor only. As stated it will not fit the 82-83 firewall, the bolt spacing is totally different.

If all else fails and you can't find one local,... send me a PM.
I owned an 83Z 2-3 years ago; I had planned to use an 86 Z engine harness when converting from crossfire to carb and found that it was MUCH easier to use the correct wiper - and correct harness - than to convert to the later style wiper motors. Durng the project I aquired 2 good wiper motors, they both got tested,....... one went in the car and 1 got stashed away for later use.

Re: 82 to 84 Wiper motor
Thank you John! I'll keep this in mind! I may run across one, I have had quite a few 3rds, think I'm at 7 now. Anyways! I got another question about the 82 motor. Everytime it goes to switch direction of windshield wiper the motor makes a loud banging noise. Almost sounds like metal tapping on firewall but it seems to be coming from motor...? Thoughts?
Also, how did you come upon that 86' harness. Previously owner of mine just butchered everything taking CFI out and it's taking a toll on me. Even interior harness is cut a little.. I just need to get dash out and fix it lol

Re: 82 to 84 Wiper motor
I just happened to have an 86 Engine harness at the time and wanted to keep the original 83 Engine & the ECM harness togther' so everything was plug-&-Play for the guy that used my Crossfire set-up. After finding out the 84-87 wiper motor wouldn't fit correctly I decided to use the 83 Engine harness & he had to find one elsewhere.
The Engine harness would normally remain un-cut and fully intact after a crossfire conversion. That's because the ECM harness from all 82-87 V8's used a separate 'independent' ECM harness. Converting is as easy as plling the ECM stuff and leaving the engine harness ( and headlight harness ) "as-is". However; every project get some kind of upgrade and people hack into harnesses to add components like fog lights, electric fans and audio systems all the time.
Due to the specific wiper system,... If you look for a replacement Engine harness I'd stick with 82-83 parts just to keep the harness swap nice and simple !

Oh boy I can't even scratch the surface.. They had my electric fan switch wired into cigarette lighter... I mean they just obliterated this harness
