Pulled a Diagnostics Code, Now What?
Hey All. So in the past week or two i have noticed my check engine light would come on after the car has been on and running for awhile. So i came home today and did the paper clip trick a few times to determine what the problem was. After a few rounds the final consensus is code 53. According to the official thread i found on here it is "High voltage at battery OR High voltage at exhaust gas recirculation valve OR Voltage reference error OR Problem at vehicle anti-theft system" Any idea of how to fix this? Where should i look first? The Car does not have VATS, so i know it cant be that one.
Any advice is welcome, and thanks in advance!

From the FSM:
Code 53: System Over Voltage
Edit: Don't drive it like this for too long. If the alternator is constantly putting out that kind of voltage it'll cook the battery.
Code 53: System Over Voltage
- Code 53 will set if voltage at ECM terminal B2 is greater than 17.1 volts for 2 seconds.
- Check and repair charging system.
Edit: Don't drive it like this for too long. If the alternator is constantly putting out that kind of voltage it'll cook the battery.

Okay, I will look at it tomorrow. The battery and alternator are relatively new, so I might have my good friend at AutoZone look at it.

I had a new alternator from oreillys auto parts that was bad(over charging). Have them test it and also see where the gauge sits at.

Okay, so today I went to Autozone and had them test everything. The battery and alternator are working fine and in proper order, so back to square one i suppose.
