I don't understand.
Are you saying that you have the key with resister in it for the car. ? If you don't have the exact key with resistor pellet for the car than that really complicates things.
The best thing you could do is remove the EPROM Module from the ECM and send it off to have VATS removed.
Once that's done you can either change out the key cylinder for a new one with a regular key.
(The resistor pellet is no longer necessary.) or have one made for the cylinder you have.
Then I would bypass the VATS Enable Relay.
At this point you will be driving a car with no security system.
You can install a kill switch or a aftermarket system or both.

Take your ID, VIN number and proof that you own the car to a good dealer. They can cut keys for it, if they haven't been changed.

I really hope that works for you.
My way you would need a crash course in VATS 101/ECM/EPROM Removal......
Still a good way to go if you want VATS disabled .
It's actually really easy to do and I have a detailed description with photos concerning the procedure if needed.

i "Had" the type of key with resistor. i will try dealer, would i go to chevy dealer since there is no pontiac now? Need to clean my truck, may be in there but not looking good.
Re: 89 GTA lost keys what to do next?
For future reference, use a meter to ohm out the resistor value. Write it down somewhere, so replacement keys only need a blank matching that value and can be cut anywhere for $2

Or take an assortment pack of diode resistors. Measure the impedance and just tie it in to jump the circuit. Just a little something from old school. LOL.
Re: 89 GTA lost keys what to do next?
I lost mine one time for 6 months...Sitting on the couch and I thought out of nowhere..."I know where my keys are!" They had fell out of a jacket I was wearing. When I hung the jacket up they fell into the arm of a sweater that was on the same coat rack...
Fortunately I didn't have any keys with the security resistor and I had spares....
Glad you found them!
