Need help with wiring problem

When i bought my 86, the previous owner said the car had some left over wires/equipment from some security systems, that had been taken off before he had the car. I didn't think much of it. I figured that it was nothing that i couldn't handle. I was wrong.

it seems that there has been a lot of systems that have been hooked up to this car during its life. I have removed a lot of the remains but am now encountering some problems. It looks like this purple wire has been cut and spliced many times, to the point were i cannot see how it was originally hooked up (see pictures). This wire goes from a purple wire-A butt connector-a white wire-a wire cap-another white wire, then back to purple via butt connector. After that it goes to this hub were it gets split into 4 purple wires.(one of the wires is the input) two wires go up into the depths of the wiring harness, while another goes to a connector (which looks factory). This connector has another wire, a yellow one, that connects to it. This wire also goes into the depths of the harness.

This is also this red wire, which seems to connect to my headlights. the problem with that is i cannot seem to get my headlights to retract now. They just stay open. also the car is not making that tone to alert you that the headlights are up anymore.

the two wires that went into the engine bay, which i removed, were loose wires. one was purple and went to the picture named engine 1, and another was red ( this wire was connected to a switch, which was aftermarket, and was under the dash) and went to the wire hub , pointed out in the picture named engine 2.

also is the connector with the purple, and yellow wire stock, or part of a system?

I do not know what to do at this point.

Re: Need help with wiring problem

Update: I manually closed both lights, to see if i could open them with the switch. I was able to open them both by power but they still will not come back down.

Re: Need help with wiring problem

Might be time to strip it out and start over. Would be easier. Mine is fairly well chopped up as well.

Re: Need help with wiring problem

I dont have a bird so i cant help you there, but that wire that is spliced together 3 times needs fixed properly. You wouldnt believe how much extra resistance splices and butt connectors can add. Get one length of wire to replace the 2 white pieces, twist rhe ends together (kinda hard to describe the correct way to do that) and then put some heat shrink tubing over the ends.

Re: Need help with wiring problem

Thanks for the help so far guys. I plan to take the dash apart now to see how far this damage goes.
