Can,t Restart My Car For Some Reason
my car wont restart after I drive it a while .
I have to sit in the parking lot for 30 minutes before it will even start again. Is this some sort of system ? i've already replaced the starter.
I just bought the 1990 IROC Z

Well, does it turn over when you try it, or does it just click?
Cause if it turns over, your starter is ok, and it means your having a fuel or spark problem.
When i first bought my '88, i drove for a whole day, then i went to the post office and it just died. Cranked and cranked and cranked, but wouldn't kick over. I took it to a shop for diagonisis (thank god i just got AAA for towing), and they said the ignition module (located in the distributor under the roter) died. I replaced it, and a month later that one went too. I did one more replacement, and made sure i put enough grease under it this time, and never had a problem till my ignition coil died. For the spark, those are you big (i wanna say weak points), the coil, module. Or at leas they were for me.
If its a fuel problem, its most likley a relay or a pump. Unless of course all 6(or 8) of you injectors went bad. But i lean toward the ignition, cause i know i only had the problems when the iginiton module heated up, all the way till the day it died on the side of the road.

May be you might have a faulty ignition switch either the key one, or the one located under the dash panels on the steering column were a rod as you turn the ignition moves the switch to make contact with the starter and accesories to the power lead.this was the problem with my car. my $.02
I have the same problem and it is annoying as hell. Sometimes I just have to wait a few seconds and try the key again and it works. Other times nothing unless I wait awhile.
The one thing that works for me is to pop the hood and take a battery cable off then put back on and the car fires right up. ???
Solenoid getting juiced up???

It really sounds like you have a bad battery connection. It is the same thing that has happened to me in the past. As I would go to start the car, I would turn the key and all the power would go out. A couple seconds to a couple minutes later, the lights would come back on and I could try again..
Anyways, look at ALL your battery connections, not just the posts, for a loose or corroded condition. Primarily follow the ground cable to the frame of the car (inner fender or exhaust manifold stud, wherever yours goes) and check it first. Then do the same with your positive lead. That one goes to the starter.
I basically remove the cable from the battery, clean the post and the cable end with a wire brush. Then I would follow that cable and take it off the car, clean and reinstall it.
You may also want to get the battery checked, as I have had a battery die in a similar fashion (as the battery would get hot the plates would contact and short out, after it cooled for a while then I could get a quick start out of it...) but then I live in AZ where battery's don't last long.
Good Luck!

Im going to call this a heat soak problem. Buy a remote mount starter solenoid ad moiunt it up by the strut tower and I promise you will never have this problem again.
