I have a 1989 Formula 350 convertible I just purchased, the fuel pump has no power. Turn the key nothing. So was reading about how to trouble shoot the problem, the fist thing I check are the fuses by the battery. I had to remove the battery because its tight. It has two what I think are inline fuse connectors pike wire in/out, and looks like a black wire in/red out. when I opened them there was no fuse? I had 20amp buse fuse, but they didn't fit. Not sure if theses are fuses or something else.
They should just be regular 20amp fuses, same size you'd use in the fuse box under the dash. That's exactly how it is on my Sport Coupe, they slide into the 2 metal prongs in the connector. Maybe they're bent in too close and you're having difficulty inserting a fuse?
The fuses you're looking for should be square, with a black plastic weather-protection cap. They're bolted right in front of the battery (facing the car, they're under that lip between the battery and the coolant recovery tank.) under the fender, the fuel pump one has a orange and red wire leading into it. I think what you've found is a unrelated fusible link?
the black wire with cylindrically shaped plastic piece and red wire coming out is a fusible link,. the black wire is the actual fuse wire and the cylindrical thing the factory connection which you should not try to take apart
