Deportation of turn signal indicator

Hello People,

I am new here, I live in France and I Have Pontiac Firebird Trans AM 1986 V8 5 l 4BBL

I customize my cars with Knight Rider Dashboard.

I have switchpod between the wheel and the dashboard, and it's not practice to use turn indicator.
It's why I would like to connect turn indicator in new switch (this type of model)

I have third light for stop (it's white color wires)
I have green color (number 19), yellow color (number 18), dark blue (number 15), and light blue (number 14)

I check electric system but I don't understand all. It's why i would like to receive your help

Thank you so much !

Re: Deportation of turn signal indicator

What is difficult here is that the original turn signal controls power to your brake lights. Using that 6 pin/ 3 way switch would make it so you could redirect power from the flasher to either light circuit manually, but you would lose all brake lights when using the turn signal in either direction. And adding the hazard function on to this switch would not be possible. Your flashers only work when ground is applied.

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, it's difficult, It's the same light for the brake and turn indicator.

I don't want to connect hazard function in my switch, I keep the original system for hazard function.

Maybe I need to use and other switch for this project ?

Re: Deportation of turn signal indicator

You need something that can still send brake light power to the bulb if the brake pedal is pressed while it is not being energized by the brake light flasher. The original switch physically changes which circuit the bulb is receiving power from (brake light power potential to right bulb when turning left; brake light power potential to left bulb when turning right). Unfortunately I do not know of a switch that can achieve this. This is probably why the factory switch is so complex. If you could use housings that use separate bulbs for turn and brake or modify your current housings to have separate bulbs for turn and brake would be about the only you could use that 3 way switch.

Yes, it's difficult. Maybe I need more switch to do it ? Or Use a different method ?

Re: Deportation of turn signal indicator

I measured the voltages of my car about the turn signals.

Of Course, I have 12V for light blue and dark blue, depending of the position of the "joystick" (Sorry, I don't know name in english), if it's up or down.

The most interesting is about green wire and yellow wires (for behind turn indicator). I have about 0.2 to 0.3V when I change position of the "joystick", and I have 12V if I press the brake pedal.

Maybe I need to use more component to obtain what I want, relay maybe ?

I hope these show the power flow under the 3 different positions the original turn signal switch to get a better idea of how it works with the rear lights. I drew a diagram of how that switch you showed may work. I would be reluctant to do it this way as I do not know what kind of amperage that switch is rated for, and as I show in the diagram, you could have either turn signals or brake lights, but not at the same time. The only way you could use that switch is to use a second set of lights powered directly from the brake light switch. I would be very careful with mods like this so you don't cause a major safety issue. Don't need a wreck or an electrical fire!

I did some more research. The diagram you posted seems to be deceiving. These are GM diagrams for a 1986 Firebird Trans Am. Do these seem to be what your tail lights are like?
