82 Camaro high/low beam switch

Hey folks, I'm having a problem with my high/low/wiper stalk.

I took the steering wheel off and got into the column today. The switch on the column is working I can click it on and off by hand. The rod is pushed into the switch correctly... however the rod is nowhere near where it should be contacting the lever on the stalk. Does anyone have a picture of how this is supposed to go together? I spent an hour this evening trying to figure it out.

It seems like the rod sits behind the little tilt lever plastic cover, and theres a small gap where the lever on the stalk should contact it to switch between high and low.

There's a plastic piece that sits in the column bowl, the lever pushes against it and it pushes the rod. I don't have a photo handy. It's black plastic, funny shaped, fits in a slot, can't miss it man. The end that fits the rod is curved, like the end of the rod.
