Bat to ignition switch?

So looking at my schematic, it looks like the + from battery meets with the red or fuse link from the starter. When I looked at the red wires from the ignition switch, there’s a little splice clip is what it looks like? Would I run a wire from that to the battery or does the battery meet up somewhere else?? It also shows two red wires coming from the switch that meet up into each other and as far as I can trace the harness it only looks like they run parallel, is there a specific spot they meet?

Specifically, what are you really asking?

That's an aftermarket splice tap. Commonly seen with aftermarket alarms, keyless entry, etc that people have added.

Re: Bat to ignition switch?

Ok well That answers my question about that then. But my main problem right now is it looks like I have to run a wire from the battery to where? Splice to the red ign wire? The ignition switch itself?

You still haven't answered Drew's question , what are you trying to accomplish with this talk of splicing into wires ? Does the car not run ? Certain accessories don't get power ?
....... Martians sending subversive messages through your radio ?

If we know what problem your working on it would make it far easier to offer meaningful advice

Re: Bat to ignition switch?

Power goes from the batt, to the big terminal on the starter by way of the batt cable; then the various Big Red Wires that carry batt power to the rest of the car, pick up their power from there. Each Big Red Wire has a fusible link in it. One of them eventually carries power to the ign sw, via that one that has the HACKJOB installed onto it. Which looks to me like a remote start device of some sort.

You do NOT need to run wires, splice anything, or otherwise HACKJOB your car some more in any way, to get power to the ign sw. All you have to do is to determine why the factory's wiring isn't working anymore. Which is likely to be because of either some HACKJOB that's already been applied by some prior HACK, or, because the fusible link is blown. Correct response to the first situation is to REMOVE all of the HACKJOBS that the car has suffered from in the past, restoring the wwiring to as close as possible to its factory new condition; if you have the 2nd situation, you should simply replace the fusible link, with a new fusible link (NOT a "fuse").

Re: Bat to ignition switch?

Sorry miss understood. So what wiring was there when I got the car was all hacked up so I basically removed everything and I transplanted a donor wiring harness from parts car. I’m just trying to go along with the schematics and get everything hooked up which is why I was asking about hooking the battery up to the ignition switch but I didn’t see anywhere that it would go.

Re: Bat to ignition switch?

Not sure how I can explain it any more plainly. You DON'T need to "run", "splice", "cut", or ANYTHING ELSE, other than, hook it back up like it belongs.

Doesn't matter what car the harness came from or what car it's going into. It hooks up the same way.

Your schematic makes it OBVIOUS. The 2 Big Red Wires leading to the ign sw get their power from a fusible link, which is supposed to receive its power at the post on the starter where the batt cable goes.

One good hack DOES NOT deserve another. Do it right. Find the Big Red Wires that belong at the post on the starter and hook them up. REPAIR them first if necessary; do not HACK them up some more.

The power tap in the above image does nothing and is unnecessary to wire your car back the way it came from the factory. The power tap is a "parasite" that someone attached to one of the two red wires you're pointing to below. What the previous posts are trying to describe is that nothing needs to be attached here.

Your question about where the parallel red wires meet after they exit the ignition switch; according to my '87 Camaro factory service manual the two wires meet at splice S200 which is the instrument panel harness located above the steering column. Camaro and Firebirds could be wired differently, even year-to-year so YMMV.

HTH.

Re: Bat to ignition switch?

S200 is actually probably no more than a few inches if you follow the wires away from that power tap, which is tapped into one or the other of the 2 Big Red Wires feeding the 2 sections of the ign sw, that the splice splits into. Likewise, the splice is probably also undisturbed, and needs no particular attention.

What needs attention is FAR more likely to be at the far end of the Big Red Wires; at their power source. Which is and should be, acoupla fusible links that connect to the big post on the starter solenoid, from which they draw their batt power.

The pink and the yellow wires right there are Ignition (FROM the ign sw TO the coil), and the starter solenoid (FROM the ign sw TO the neutral safety switch and from there to the starter). Since those are both tapped, that's what makes the particular HACKJOB you have in your hand there, look like it's for a remote start.
