Gauge fuse instantly blowing
Gauge fuse instantly blowing
To open , I own a 1986 Firebird with a 350 SBC
so since I purchased I had a issue with my speedometer, found the speed driven clip was missing and fixed it , anyway not the point. After fixing everything and putting it together it still didn’t work and I realized there was a blown fuse. I place in a new one and went on my jolly way with no issues! Took the car to Get gas and then we got it home , all with no issues starting or running. Once it was home we put it in reverse and tried to move and it stalled out . It had a very hard time starting again, almost as if the battery was dead. Then once it was running we realized all my gauges no longer worked and the car was no longer making the ding noise when the key was turned. Once again I looked and it had blown the fuse , I tested to see and the second a new fuse was placed, it exploded in contact.
what I am getting at is, what are all the of connections to the gauges fuse? And where exactly should they be located on the car . I have a lot of wires going nowhere and it’s beginning to concern me. There are a couple loose black wires under the driver dash but they all appear to have no power to them. The VSS buffer is grounded properly for sure. So now it’s just unplugging the other sensors in the car to see which is causing it to overload . I unplugged the cruise control as well. I am not a real good mechanic so rips on where to test possibly and exactly how to test with a multimeter( I’m only 16 and this is my first project, turned out to be a real dousy)
thanks in advance and hope to hear back soon. I can’t afford a new car wiring harness or else I would honestly probably consider it !
