Battery wiring

anyone know what these wires are for. Trying to clean up the wiring and can't figure out what do with these or what they are for.

The device on the far left of your picture is a fuse that is supposed to feed power to your ECM (and fuel pump I'm pretty sure ) .

If by "clean up" you mean that you've gone to a straight non electronically controlled carb. and vacuum advance distributor , then yes , you don't need that .

Of course with no ECM you'll be needing to run an aftermarket lockup kit if you want your torque converter clutch to work .

But if you ARE keeping the TPI , you'd best tread damned carefully with what exactly you "clean up" , for instance the TPI will not function without that fuse (and it's wiring) intact ....

Re: Battery wiring

Good info. I am keeping the tpi. What about the green wire and that little black barrel with the 2 wires coming out. Seems to me they are both a ground?

Re: Battery wiring

The green wire only looks to be green for like 4".

What color is the actual WIRE? (not the PO's hackjob spliced to the end of it)

Re: Battery wiring

Can't tell what that is. Although, it looks kinda like zip cord down in there, which would NOT be factory. Might have to trace it down and see where it goes. (if anywhere...)

That other thing with the white connector hanging there doesn't look factory either. One thing for sure, though... d00d REALLY like splicing wires.

The thing with the black barrel looks like the one wire, with the eyelet, is ground. I don't know where the others might have gone, but clearly they would be something grounded, or that needed to be grounded, as well.

Re: Battery wiring

Traced it to the fan relay plug. Question is this orange wire supposed to be hot?

I was myself questioning if that black wire with the eyelet might have gone to either his alternator or perhaps that remotely mounted terminal block sometimes found mounted to the radiator support (My Firebird has such a terminal , but then again my battery is on the driver's side VS the passenger side like the OP's car has) . That black wire that's connected to the black barrel runs right to the fender mounted fuse , that's gotta be a + connection and not ground , yes ?

Re: Battery wiring

That's what was confusing me. Maybe this barrel separates the positive and negative portion of these wires. I was thinking of just running a distribution fuse panel and separating this fender fuse to its own 12v. But then is this orange wire that was crimped with a green wire a 12v as well? I hate fixing hacked wiring.

No sir , I do not believe it separates a positive and negative , I believe it's a positive distribution point that among other things brought +12V to the fuse .
