Blinker issue help

With my lights on and the car on, i flip the switch up and down and i get nothing. I flipped the switch then took a look outside the car and the lights are not blinking.
I don't get a blink on my dash for both signals and also i don't get a blink outside the vehicle for both signals. My high beams work when i flip the switch towards me, and my wipers and everything else works. Just my blinkers are not, so I dont think its the switch.
My question is what should be my next step? Could it be the blinker fluid? no really someone help.
I've tried to look on the forums but couldn't find an exact similar problem, Its either right works but left doesn't or inside lights up and outside doesn't.

Is it only with the lights on? Are the indicators lighting up solid? Do the 4 ways work? These cars have 2 different flashers. One for 4 way and one for turns. Possible you have a bad flasher..

i just care about the turn signals. People on the forums have been talking lots about the flasher. Ill go ahead and change it and see if it fixes the issue. No indicators light up. The switch just flips into place but no sound or lights inside and outside even with the lights off.

I understand you do not care about 4 ways. That would narrow down bulbs and wiring issues. It would also help narrow down a flasher issue. Swap the flashers and see if they work. Also check and make sure all the fuses are good under the dash.

Re: Blinker issue help

I'm not sure where to start, so let's go to the very basics.

Check their fuse. The most likely thing, if NONE of them come on AT ALL. It's labelled something cryptic like "TS" or "TURN SIG" or maybe "TURN BU" [backup]. Check either with an ohmmeter, or by replacement; NOT "look at". Once you are SURE that the fuse is good, proceed.

First thing to check with non-blinking blinkers that come on but don't blink is, are ALL the light bulbs that are supposed to be lit, lit. Since you have a Camaro that's pretty eeeeeezie: one yellow in the front and one yellow in the rear for each blinker, plus of course the ones in the dash. Once again, verify that each and every one is good with an ohmmeter or by replacement, NOT by "looking" or by "thinking" whatever, and verify that they are in their sockets fully and correctly. Note carefully that the exterior ones have 2 little nubs that engage the socket; they are set at different heights off of the socket base, and the socket has 2 corresponding slots at different heights with a little locking "key" for the nub to sit in when fully and properly engaged; this assures (nominally) that the bulbs are correctly oriented in the socket, i.e. with the Park filament (the less bright one) connected to the Park circuit, and the Turn/Haz filament (the brighter one) connected to the Turn/Haz wiring. I HIGHLY recommend simple replacement, cleaning out whatever gunk is down in the sockets in the process with lacquer thinner and a rag or brush, and adding a fresh dollop of "light bulb grease", as they are cheeeeeeeeep, known not to last long, and equally well known to burn out within about a week after you "verify" that they are "good" and get everything working, leading to the same problems recurring. Personally I hate it when that happens. Since you have to pull interior parts and take the light assy completely off the car to "check" them, I STRONGLY suggest just going ahead and replacing EVERY SINGLE ONE - tail/brake, TS, BU, and license plate - and just renewing the whole system.

i just care about the turn signals.
That's bullspit. You should be ashamed of yourself for even saying that. FIX YOUR DAMN CAR and don't be a half-a$$. It's not that hard and probably won't cost even a dollar. DO IT RIGHT and make a habit of thinking that way.

Incidentally, the side markers, both front and rear, blink OPPOSITE the TS. That is, when the TS bulb comes on, the side marker goes out, and vice-versa. Many people don't even realize that those things are lights at all, they think they're just reflectors because the bulb burned out 25 yrs ago and nobody ever bothered changing it, but it's actually a light. Conveniently enough those use the same bulb part # (194) as the dash bulbs, and the license plate ones are that as well, so I always just buy acoupla boxes of 10, and while I'm changing out bulbs, I swap out EVERY SINGLE ONE in the whole car all at once, so I don't have to do double or triple work later. You can buy 194s with amber and red coating on em if you want but it's not really "necessary". There's about 6 or 7 "indicator" lights of various sorts in the front of the dash, and if you take off just 4 more nuts and the speedo cable clip, you can change out all of the panel illumination ones (which are on the back) as well. Those are also 194, and you will ALMOST CERTAINLY find several of them burnt out just like everybody else's. Just renew EVERYTHING all at once and be done with it.

If they are STILL not lit, it's most likely the flasher. In a Camaro the Turn Signal flasher is NOT the one in the fuse box. That one is the Hazards (which of course should also be working now, if their fuse is good... it's equally cryptically labelled something like "STOP/HAZ", and if that's bad, you won't have any brake lights either, which of course annoys the living crap out of everybody around you, besides making your car look like a typical Frod with their crappy brake light switch arrangement, heaping shame upon the 3rd gen community as a whole). The TS one is under the dash near the driver's right knee; some years in the "convenience center" (convenient to the factory I guess, but not anybody else) which is a little tray sort of thing that also has the OBD1 connector mounted on it, or in other years, in a clip between that and the steering column. Replace it with a "heavy duty" one, NOT a regular one; the "HD" type are designed to go in vehicles that pull trailers so that the extra bulbs don't mess with their flashing rate, but they tend to last longer in cars like ours that won't ever pull a trailer because they have higher current-carrying capacity contacts, if nothing else.

It's also possible that you have a bad turn signal switch or bad wiring, but that's MUCH less common. Do the simple stuff first, and if it still doesn't work, we'll move on to the more complicated. See my signature for a helpful mental discipline when troubleshooting problems that might have a variety of potential causes. Start with simple stuff like blown fuses and bulbs, but save "explanations" like alien abduction or demonic possession or black-helicopter conspiracies for later.

Signal Scenario

Turn the ignition key to the RUN position.

Using a voltmeter, probe the
purple wire going to the steering column connector.

It's the larger of the connectors located on the right side of the steering column.

If there's power there, turn the blinker to the left position, then probe the
LIGHT blue wire at the same connector.

Is there power there?
