Wiring Assistance

Hello to you!

I am having difficulty identifying these wires and their function. This is a 1983 25th Anniversary Trans Am 305 Cross fire fuel system that is in process of restoration. Unfortunately, the mice enjoyed the wiring and plastic on the driver's side. The black wire with the blade was located in a plastic "L" shaped holder, while the other connector with the three wires, I have no idea. These originate from a connector off of the harness. Also, the Green wire had a type of plastic guide on the end that I can not locate an area to plug in. The green wire is hot during run only, while there is no activity in the other wires. Could this be a melted connection that goes to the wiper/cruise system?

Thank you and any help is greatly appreciated!! This is my first car and was driving up until 15 years ago and I would like to have it going again before my 60th birthday!

Re: Wiring Assistance

The large black 4-pin one plugs into the distributor. Its mate should be hanging out of it.

The green wire goes t the temp gauge sending unit. It's in the driver's side head between the #1 & #3 spark plugs; the front 2 on that side.

Not sure about the small flat one.

Re: Wiring Assistance

Thank you for your response. The distributor in on the passenger side and this is on the driver side, so it is too far to plug into. I will continue to look.

Re: Wiring Assistance

The distributor is dead center, at the very rear of the motor, almost buried into the firewall; round, has 8 spark plug wires coming out of it. Hanging out of the base will be (or at least there was at one time) the matching harness to that plug.

Re: Wiring Assistance

Hello there,

Thank you for your assistance. Finally, I found the location at the distributor that you discussed and everything plugged in nicely!! The green wire also follows to the sensor unit for the temperature. She actually "Fired off" today and now needs timing.

Thank you again!!

Re: Wiring Assistance

The photo of the single green wire, is that of a loose terminal without a connector body.
The connector body most likely broke apart/ fell off from age/ cracking.

If you could try and take some more pictures of where the wire goes... I can try and figure out what it is for.

Is your vehicle definitely a 1983 model? I ask because the 25th anniversary Trans-Am was in 1994.
1989 was the 20th anniversary, and 1984 was of course the 15th.

Re: Wiring Assistance

She already found it; as described, it was the temp gauge sending unit.

Now, that little flat brown one with looks like 3 wires, I think that one is still up for grabs.

Re: Wiring Assistance

Damn, I can not find my Cross-Fire engine wiring documents for F-Bodies...

Maybe I have the Corvette documents; I'll see if I can rule-out that 3-terminal connector as an engine related connector.
