So right now I have a SGI-100BT dakota box installed along with the yellow factory buffer box. I want to just delete the factory box. The problem is that there are two signal wires, purple and yellow. I am using the purple wire as my signal wire. What do I do with the yellow wire?

Transmission speed sensor has a 2-wire pair. You need both to operate the speedometer. On my 89 Firebird V6 the purple and yellow were laid in the harness but not used (came from C100 bulkhead on the driver side firewall). Speed sensor was actually a different wire pair from the passenger side kick panel I think. You might want to confirm that you don't have something goofy like that going on in your car.

 

the SGI box replaced the factory vss buffer box and you can customize the signal output to make changes for tire size and rear gear changes.

 

I have read that thread already. What I want to know is if I can delete the yellow wire, or do I need to wire in the yellow wire somewhere? I thought the yellow wire was a ground but everyone says it is a low signal.

 

Ground the yellow wire. I would do it at the same location that the dakota box is grounded.

For anyone that suffers from the infamous bouncing speedo, deleting the yellow buffer box and grounding the yellow wire to the SGI ground fixed the issue for me.

 

^What msammy93 said. When I did my 3.73 swap with my 700r4 my speedometer would constantly bounce around when stopped. After my T56 swap, I hooked the yellow wire (reference wire) to the sensor ground on my Dakota Digital SGI-5E. All is well now.

 

Yeah it weird some of the fixes people were trying. I was seeing some guy on YouTube wrapped his purple and yellow wire in foil and then grounded it on one side lol
