Hi all. I finally got an IROC. Loved these cars for ever and finally got somewhat of a project 86. My high schooler is getting hands on with it because the deal is good grades and sweat equity and it’s yours. Wish my dad made that deal with me!! Oh well. First question is where can I find assembly blow ups to refer to? I’m a C3 guy and we got those for free from certain parts vendors. What do you recommend? Also, left turn signals fully functioning, right side not. Tested flasher for continuity and checked out but still thinking it needs a new one. Where are the relays located for them?

thanks for any help.

Welcome. Autstinthirdgen.org has all of the electrical schematics but in the meantime your blinker relay is located in the convenience center which is in front of your right knee under the dash. Small round metal one. It lives next to the horn relay and the door buzzer.

Re: New Guy

Your next move should be to obtain a copy of the Factory Service Manual (Helms) for your specific year Camaro; they turn up on eBay frequently. Avoid Chilton and all other aftermarket manuals; they're incomplete and often contain outright incorrect information, especially electrical system diagrams.

Good luck with your IROC.

For reference. Good body and runs but a lot of electrical and mechanical needs.

Re: New Guy

The factory assembly manual is not the same as the service manual. It's the production-line work instruction set for building the car. UNBELIEVABLY USEFUL if you're doing a restoration; not so much for yebasic everyday maintenance.

The FSM was distributed primarily to dealers for them to maintain NEW cars. Much of what's in it isn't all that applicable to a hooptie with 10 million miles on it; the troubleshooting charts for example, are oriented toward a NEW car that SUDDENLY develops ONE problem or failure, and helping the dealer tech track it down quickly; but some of what's in them is PRICELESS. Wiring diagrams, instructions for servicing major modules of the car, and so on.

I'd recommend buying it, just the same... instinct tells me you could eventually either get that much value out of it by using it someday, or by selling it. The classifieds on this site are a good way of doing that.

thanks. Kind of like the c3 schematics I use. More for rebuilds and tear downs. Exactly what I need.
