Removing TPI Wirring Harness. Help???

Hey guys. Im takin out the TPI harness outa my parts car and have a few questions. Now, when this is done, is it normal to remove EVERYTHING, including the headlight harness which seems to be connected?

Also, on the drivers side, there is a black box where most of the wires go through the firewall under the dash. I cant get the mother f*er out. Do I need this as well to complete the harness?

Im planning on selling the harness, but I dont wanna give someone an incomplete harness. I basically just want whats related to the engine.

Any help is appreciated!

There is a 8mm or so bolt that holds the black fire wall box together. You have to get to it from the engine side. Its in the center of the box.Its a PITA sometimes, but it will come off.

C'mon guys I really need to get this damn thing out. Does the harness connect to the fuse box too? If so, Im screwed cause someone CUT out the fuse box! Im gettin ready to do a TPI swap job for someone, and I gotta let em know if they need to buy a harness or if they can use the one I have.

sounds like your first tpi swap, allow yourself plenty of time for this swap. Perhaps a week or two from the time you start till the time you finish. Things that need to be swapped include but are not limited to:

Intake manifold and most everything bolted to manifold
Various sensors
Fuel Pump (big job, since the rear axle, exhaust, and fuel tank must be removed)
Complete engine harness
If donor car is not same model year as car the tpi will be installed into, you may need to splice wires to adapt your dash harness to the engine harness

The donor car is obviously not running at the moment since it's missing the fuse box. Allow lots of time for troubleshooting since you won't know what tpi electrical components are good and which bad until you get them bolted onto your project vehicle.

As for original question, the engine bay fuel management harness is seperate from the dashboard harness. They connect together by a few plugs on the passengers side of the vehicle. For easier access removing the tpi harness, you may wish to remove the passengers side fender from the car.

The big bolts on the back of the cylinder heads are for grounding the engine harness. Do make sure to ground the harness properly to the project car, otherwise the car will run very poorly or worse yet not at all.

Rob, The harnesses that I have removed in the past have not been connected to the lighting system, just engine sensors, and i think some A/C sensors. The block that goes into the firewall on the drivers side is a pain in the *** to get to. Where at in Cherry Hill are you, maybe I can swing by & give a hand.

Yeah, typical Cherry Hill folk for ya!!! LOL That's cool, I'm over in Kingston estates by the skating rink, off of chapel ave. I've had my car since new in '89, and still love driving it. We'll have to get together some time & check out each others rides. Have any other parts from that parts car that you might want to get rid of?
