Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
What springs would I have to use on a stock iron headed L98?

Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
I believe comp recommended the 26918 behive springs. But I would call comp cams or your preffered spring company and see what they recommend..

Do you have a part number/application? There is more than one version of that cam. Pics?
I'm curious, why did you end up pulling it?

Actually, I just looked at your link, so it's the HR retrofit version (won't work with a retainer plate/needs cam button/something to push against)?

Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
huh... so actually I'm back to the original question, do you know if it's the 55-85 or 86 and up version? The website lists it as the 55-85 and shows that style cam in the picture, but the PN starting with an 08 should be a roller block (86 and up) version (and I'm going to assume that it's not the late LT1 cam which is the same but with a different length dowel pin)

Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
its the 86 and up version because my block is an 89 4 bolt main. I ended up pulling not just the cam but the heads and all and im going back to carburated because i had so many damn issues with my stock computer! I upgraded to some afrs and i had a custom ground cam made by mike jones. Any other questions feel free to ask! pics up tonight! Thanks guys

# 12-467-8 would be the retro fit version
If it was the long pin LT1 version (# 07-467-8 ) you can just trim the pin length to suit a earlier roller setup

Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
beehives be minimum rating for that cam, but i'd call patriot performance and order their extreme gold kit for sbc/lt1's with 11/32" valve stems. should fit stock spring pockets as its a small diameter spring.
But to be honest, thats way too much cam/lift for stock L98 heads. You'd have to have the heads worked over to handle the lift and even then i think its too high lift for the flow profile of the stock L98s.

Re: Comp Xfi280 cam
for heads like those, probaly better off upgrading heads or the heads would be a weak point..
