........... Yessir ... I used a cam retainer plate from an L98 to keep the cam and timing set out of the block and made a nose button out of 1/2" aluminum round bar stock to keep the cam from walking out toward the front cover ... Lingenfelter sells a kit to install a step nose cam in a Gen 1 but I didn't find out about their kit 'til after mine was already in and running ......... BTW ... I wound up going solid roller ... that's why this cam is for sale ...............

Re: FS: Comp Cams 280 XFI Hydraulic Roller Cam

OK, got me thinking...might be something for my 383 build up. Is the anti-cam-walk included with the cam? How would you describe the operation on your engine? What's your combo? Carb/EFI? Nitrous?

......... The cam walk stuff is not included ... I have other projects in the works that it would be used on ......... The combo is .040 over 400 or 409 ci ... The best ETs with this cam were with AFR 195 64cc heads 10:1 compression and a FIRST Fuel Inj aftermarket TPI set-up ... Awesome intake BTW ... and Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4" headers ......... The XFI stands for Extreme Fuel Injection and was designed by Comp for computer controlled cars , EFI , and 1.6 rockers ..... Operation was great ... nice muscle car idle , great low end pull , the power limiter was the long runner intake ... it made good power to 5000 rpm then started to fall off ... I switched to an Accel Pro-ram intake ( single plane Victor E style ) and saw no reduction in ETs but had to raise my shift points which led me to the solid roller cam and stiffer valve springs ..... Keep in mind that bigger motors tend to soften-up a cam and vice-versa ... This cam would be pretty stout in a 350 and hefty in a 383 ... if your combo includes carbs or NOS you might want to look at another cam ...

Well, not quite...the XFI series are an option for nitrous fed engines because of their duration and wide LSA...

Still concidering the options.

Would you consider trading the cam for a solid billet roller?

That cam is too large for a 305 TPI. On a 305 stock tpi that cam would make peak power a few thousand RPM after the TPI's designed for.

..... The base is an Accel Pro Ram single plane EFI manifold ... very similar to Edelbrock's Victor E EFI intake ......... the plenum is factory TPI with the runner ports welded up and a 1" open carb spacer welded to the bottom ..... All the stock stuff bolts right on ... Throttle body , TV and throttle cables , Intake Air Temp sensor , and all the needed vacuum ports ... And , it fits under the hood of a C4 Corvette ....... I could fab up another plenum for $350.00 if you're interested .............

..... Most dual plane intakes make it difficult to weld in the injector bungs mainly due to the different heights of the runners ... the bungs have to be leveled and in the same plane in order to fit a fuel rail in ......... I used an Edelbrock Torker II single plane and the results were similar to the Accel but with a lower peak power rpm ... 6000 vs 6800 ............ some of that is because of my combo ..... the other difficulty is the thermostat housing ........ that requires welding and tweaking depending on who gets priority to the real estate ... thermo hsg or Throttle body ... both are necessities ......... Runs Awesome ... I'm dealing with starting line issues right now but I've got a torquey motor to begin with .... I'd get you welded and ready to bolt-on for $250 ... plus shipping of course ... the spacer plate HAS to be billet ... the cast junk won't weld properly .......... Thermo housing welded up for $100 .........
