I'm in need of a TPI Prom chip for a 350, and a set of 350 Injectors. I'm in the process of doing a 305-350 swap.

This should work with an 89 Iroc TPI shouldn't it? Will you sell the prom separate, or just as a pair? Because all I really need is the prom.

 

It should work but you need to do some homework just to make sure. Its all or nothing as its worthless without it.

90-92 TPI Proms and ECMs (ECU or computer) will NOT work on a stock 89 or older TPI setup.

Are you installing a 89 TPI? If not what year is your TPI setup?

 

The TPI Setup is out of an 89, and going back into the 89. So I need an 89 and older prom/ecm?

 

89 f-body TPIs are a 1 year only setup. You need a 89 only prom and a 1227165 ecm.

I have a remanufactured 1227165 ecm and a 89 350 TPI prom from a 89 GTA 350 TPI.

Make sure you get a engine wiring harness from a 89 305 or 350 TPI Firebird also. The harness in a Camaro is different due to battery location.

Here is what I have. I do have the cover and the 2 screws for it, I just took it off for the picture.

 

This is going into my iroc. It is an 89, with a 305 tpi originally. So the is that ecm acceptable still? Or do I really need the whole new ecm? Are you offering to sell the one you have? haha, I couldn't quite tell.

 

Looks like the ECM number is the same between the 305 and 350 for 1989?

 

Your ECM will work it is a 1227165 you just need to change your prom or have your 305 prom burned for a 350.

I would suggest Ford injectors also. Stay away from the Multec injectors.

I thought you were putting the 350 TPI in your 89 Firebird 2.8

 

I have a TPI 350/Auto Prom in my 165 computer in my 89 Formula. Let me check what the chip's code is and make sure it's 89 but, it would probably suit your needs quite well. Though it has not suited my needs as I have an 89 305TPI 5 Speed, lol.

did the car you had with the 305 have tpi or tbi. if it was tbi you will need to replace the wiring harness in front of the firewall and behind it. so get every wire you can find and dont cut anything.

 

i want to thank you for posting that site. i was able to get all the codes for the 91 350 tpi that i am swapping into my 90 305 camaro. that was really helpful.

you are one lucky man - i have to pull every wire with my 305 tbi and put the tpi stuff in but i dont want to do that until i get the heads.

Hmm, well i am sorry that I gave you false hope - It turns out that the one I have is an APYR, which is listed on several sites as:

Though the interesting thing is that I have an OTC Monitor 2000 and when hooked up across the ALDL connector it reads it as a 350/Auto Chip. Sorry man.

Hmm yeah, that would be a 305 auto chip, strange that it scans as a 350 auto chip. Thanks anyway!

 

yeah, i have a saved copy of that page on my computer. Hey, if you run out of luck i might be able to burn you a prom - a stock image of one that is. I couldn't find the chip i needed so I bought a Willem programmer. I ended up burning a APYS the other day for my car on a EPROM that can be erased/rewritten electrically.

I think I spent $15-$30 on the programmer (I bought it last year, never got around to using it till now) and a used "flash" chip for like $7 (lol, it says "ALTEREDIMPORTS" on it, haha). I'm gonna be plugging it in in a couple days, wish me luck.

Like I said, I could burn you a chip, but you would have to install it into an existing MEMCAL (err, I don't think it's actually a MEM-CAL on a 165?). But, be warned - I'm not trying to sell you the service - the chips are like $7 on ebay shipped, then I would just burn it and ship it to you. What you do from there is up to you.

I know how it is to have the wrong chip! I feel your pain!

I tried and tried with you but you had so many issues with the ECM #s and the one in your car with the updated #. I gave up on you.

I talked to the other member on the phone a few minutes ago and he is going to buy the prom from me but he might buy the ECM also if he can cancel the reman. ECM his mechanic ordered.

If things change tomorrow when he calls me and doesn't need it, I will let you know. Right now the ECM and prom are his.

I have a ECM out of a 89 firebird. it is a 165 ECM with a AUJM prom. Replaced it with a EBLflash. Was working when pulled. Also have a set of pink top ford injectors that were also on the same car but due to upgrades were too small. If interested get in touch with me....
