87 305 tpi to 73 350 tpi????
87 305 tpi to 73 350 tpi????
I'll get straight to the point! Can I take all the components off and out of my 305 and bolt it all into the 73 350 block.
Cause I don't know if the roller cam would go into a hydraulic
block. I would appreciate any info you guys could give me before I start> THANKS

Well, it's hard to give a straight answer because you danced all over the place in getting straight to the point.
For instance: "...all the components off and out of my 305 and bolt it all into the 73 350 block". Off, almost, but not quite. The flex plate will be different, the intake bolt pattern is slightly different; but everything else should be okay, with the possible exception of the passenger side exhaust manifold (but you're going to put headers on it while you're at it anyway, right?). The dipstick tube changed sides between those years, so the stock '87 driver's side manifold is going to give you some trouble in that area (which the headers would solve). Out, basically nothing will fit except the rods. What all did you think you need out of the 305?
Let's get our terminology straight on the cam: The '87 roller is hydraulic, meaning it has roller followers with hydraulic, automatic lash adjustment. The '73 has flat followers with hydraulic, automatic lash adjustment. So, no, the cam, lifters, timing gear, and pushrods will not swap between the two. A replacement cam & lifter set for the '73 is cheap, though, probably the most common performance upgrade part out there.

Thanks, I know I was pretty vague. But what you are basically telling me is that I can rebuild the 73 without having to do anything special except putting my vortec heads on , then basically bolting everthing else on. And then working out the minor flaws ( I think thats what you mean ) Thanks again
