Place to buy reconditioned blocks ???
Place to buy reconditioned blocks ???
Is there a place on-line whre you can buy fully reconditioned and ready to assemble short blocks? I want a 400 SBC 4-bolt, unbored or atleast nothing more than .30 over.
The reason I ask is because I don't want to screw around with looking for a block, having it checked and reconditioned. I just want it now

Are you sure? I was told by a local shop that they were better, see what you can learn on the internet
Well then in addition to my first question, can a 2 bolt be turned into a 4 bolt or will it take a 800 HP build as a 2 bolt?

2 bolt 400's are reliable up to about 600 hp. They are stronger than 4 bolt's. For 800 hp, you need to have the main caps splayed. So long as you're cooling system is up to par, 400's don't have over heating problems either.

92,
I think PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) out in Chatsworth sells reconditioned standard bore blocks that have been resleeved.
I would probably go for a Dart or Motown block for the kind of engine you are planning. I'm not sure if the factory Gm block casting can take a 4 inch crank in it. It'll add some coin to your buildup, but strokers do cost money.
I love my $500 305 L69 longblock!

Thanks, I was told that a 4 inch would fit, that's why I'm even doing this. Otherwise I'd just do a 383 or something.

I had a magazine dating back to 1998 (Engine Masters) that detailed the buildup of a 427 small block, but I lost it. Damn!
It provided some useful information to show where the block needed to be clearanced to allow for a 4 inch crank. I do believe that the engine in that magazine did use a production bowtie 2-bolt block as the foundation.
