oil pump ???
I have a `87 camaro with a 305, I think the oil pump is going. the pressure started to fluctuate yesturday. is it possible to change the oil pump with the motor in the car? Is there enough room to get the oil pan out with the crossmember there? thnks. Srry if this seems like a dumb question but this is my first camaro.

Great thnks for the quick reply. it started to knock then went away and came back and away again. the motor has 120,000 miles on it and runs great I put mobil in it and then it went funky. thnks again and that was the oil pump I was thinking about.

a week ? are u nuts?? i just poped my oil pan off in 10 mins lol. i needed to do it to get the timing chain cover off to use on my 350 when i put it in. well here wuts involved. get under the car and take out all the bolts and then drop the pan. oh yea and don;t forget to drain the oil. then after the pan if off theres one bolt holdin the pump on. take out the bolt and the pump comes out. put the new pump in and bolt it on tight. then when u buy the new oilpan gasket it will be a nice one peice rubber one and it will have these blue things in the package that u screw into the block then u put the pan on and they hold it there while u put the bolt in, then u tightin all the bolts down to 7ft. pounds. in a crissscross pattern, but first tighten all four corner bolts witch are bigger to 14ft. pounds. then fill it up with oil and change the filter and your on your way.

Great thnks the chilton manuals suck. they just say take it off no good directions. It is still knockin though. so I dont know what to do. the oil pressure seems ok now but somthing must have blocked it. Sludge I guess. Is it worth takin it off to see if I can get to the bearings, and do u think I could replace the bearing I dont think it has done any dasmage to the crank shaft itself as it is just a slight knocking. It does not make any noise at idle just higher RPMS. I dont want to do a swap as of yet cause I want to save up more money before I do so. like during the winter. a chhistmas present to myself or somthing. right now I need it to get me to the train station right now and I need to take time off work to swap it. so Id like it to hold up for just a little while longer thnks

hey guys i just went to prime my 350 and the oil pump is makin a thumpin sound and my drill can barely turn it. wuts wrong with this thing?
Yeah you can drop the pan and get to the bearings. Getting the pan out of the way takes a little time. You have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine quite a bit. You also have to drop the y-pipe. I pulled out my distributer cause it looked like it was gettin kinda close to the fire wall. You have to be carefull not to get the wireing harness pinched in between the engine and the fire wall, and keep an eye on the oil pressure sender if it is mounted up by the intake, mine started to bend when it hit the fire wall. Have fun
