LT4 Intake

I just dropped my LT1 heads off at the machine shop to be ported and rebuilt. I was going to order the red powder coated LT4 intake and have it matched to the heads. Then I read the LT4 ports are higher than the LT1 ports. Will the LT4 intake work with the LT1 heads??

Thanks

Mark

yes, the LT4 intake can be used with LT1 heads. Its the other way around that you run into problems, you cant use an LT1 intake with LT4 heads.

Thanks, my guess would be that I could have the LT1 heads matched to the LT4 instake and use an LT4 intake gasket??

It'd probably be much cheaper to just powdercoat an LT1 intake. Then you'll have a matched intake to the heads. The LT4 intake doesn't really flow any better than stock LT1 intake when used with LT1 heads.

Save your money. LT4 intakes are widely considered to be a miracle of advertising. The only time I would use one would be with LT4 heads.

Just take the LT1 clean it up however you like and maybe polish the runners as far as can be reached. They are already excellent manifolds.

I'm running GTP Stage 2 heads and a 235/242 .568/.592 114 cam through my stock LT1 manfiold right now.

Thanks guys. That LT4 intake looks so sweet powder coated. Oh well, I guess I will just use my LT1 intake.

I just thought that, by the time you powder coat the one intake you could have bought the other.

Thanks again...

Just make sure when you have it powder coated that they cover up all the holes.

(my LT4 intake is Red, digicam makes red look pink)

I took a can of high temp paint to mine....$7 and a lil' bit of masking tape was all it took to make this.

Very nice, Mark. Now you need to get your bracket and water pump painted.

I did mine red. Not in an attempt to pretend I have an LT4 intake, just to match the paint on my car. I left the top fins painted so that discerning folks will know it is a painted LT1 piece and not a faux LT4.

I was just wondering if I could get away withglass beading the intake and painting it, but I think the guys above have answered that question.

wow i'm glad there's a reasonable explanation for the pink ... in the back of my mind i was wondering if u were building the mary kay edition LT4 trans am from hell. hehe i'm jk i'm glad it's not really pink though.

markolc - how well will just "high temp paint" hold up in the engine bay? i'm not knocking what you've done, the black and silver looks sick, i'm just wondering if it's safer to powdercoat ?

It's held up for about a thousand miles now, just don't place tools on it cuz it chips. Brett's red intake has held up for over a thousand miles as well.
