vortec truck motor vs 350 HO?

i was wondering, the 350 HO vortec motor sells for around $2200, and all it basically is is a 4 bolt 350, 9 to one compression, vortec heads, and an OK cam. what would the difference be between that motor, and the 96 and newer truck vortec motors? cant i rip a long block out of a smashed tahoe, suburban, pickup for less than 2200, put in a little bigger cam, would power output still be the same?

are the heads the same on the vortec truck motors, than the motors you get from GMPP? is compression on the two motors the same? thanks for the help

Cam and intake are the main differences. Don't get too wild with the cam, though, unless you take the heads off and work over the springs, studs, and guides.

Oh, other difference is the warranty.

The springs on the Vortec HO motor are upgraded; but still weak for a bigger cam.

anyone know about the compression of the two motors? is the truck motor a roller cam or hydraulic flat tappet?

The L31 Vortec motors were hydraulic roller. Not sure about the comp ratio.
