TTA & Grand National Difference?

What is the difference between the engine that was put in the TTA and the Grand National? I've read some conflicting info about the horsepower and torque ratios. I've got a 2.8mpfi and I'd eventually like to swap in something with a little more power but I don't know what's best? Could you swap in an engine from a Grand National and get the same results as a TTA?

Engine: 3.8 SFI turbo
Transmission: 2004r
Axle/Gears: 3.27
The cylinder heads are FWD versions(if you wanna keep the a/c) the crank is cross drilled, special TTA pistons to keep compression low,TTA specific fuel lines(could fab your own),TTA specific wiring harness(could splice GN harness),vaccum block(for power brakes),TTA specific headers,X-over pipe and down pipe,Intercooler also(i believe),different chip in ecm. That's all i could think of.........

Motor mounts are different too. But I've seen people who have used GN and modified them to work in the F-body; not sure how it was done though.

That's quite a shopping list to try to get the same type of results though.

What is the actual difference in horsepower and torque between the two? Would I be better off looking at something like an LS1 or an LS2?

I'm going through the same thing as we speak. Not a swap but buying a car. Let me give you my opinion on it. The ls1 is by far the best small block ever produced by gm. If you are looking for power from what I've seen the ls1 is the way to go. It would be a killer swap and a few guys have done it with great results. However it costs more to mod than the 3.8 turbo. If you want something different go with your gut. Envision your car beating all the new models out there and saying it's just a 6 cylinder. Or the flip side the LS1 in a technological marvel and does look sweet in a third gen engine bay. Ultimately it is your choice and either engine swap would rock. It justs take more time to find the parts to swap the 3.8 in(lower quantity of parts) than the ls1.

Good Luck!!!

Ok so an LT1 has 275-285 horsepower stock and an LS1 has about 310-320. So I guess you'd get more bang for the buck from an LS1. I know the 350's can get up to 500hp but I don't what they are stock. (I think I must be crazy to even think about this..)

Anything with a turbo just has amazing potential. (Well, to a certain extent of course....)

you pretty much nailed it, also the heads had 1.65 rocker arms instead of 1.5 or 1.6(i forget what the gn's had)

everything listed above is why the TTA's ran quicker than a GN, plus aerodynamics...
