V-10

I have been wondering if one could swap a viper engine into a thirdgen. I really dont think I would, but it would be nice to know just to know. But if you did swap one in, what would you have to do (assuming the car was like..say a 91 efi)?????
Thanks

uh, yeah, have you looked at your engine compartment, and then looked at a viper engine compartment? you might notice some problems....

so basically, no chance in hell

my saying is this" any motor can go into any car....for the right price...", i guess with alot of money it could go halfyway back underthe windsheild. you have to remeber the engine is long than a V8 due to two more cylinders stuck on...

It could absolutely be done.....you can do anything you want if you have the time, ingenuity and a little cash

yes the viper engine is a little longer (it really isnt that much longer) if you have ever had the nose of a third gen apart you know that there is a TON of room up there....with some careful planning and fabrication you could easily fit a viper engine in a 3rd gen.

youd probably have to fabricate a new radiator support and move it forward, and fabricate a cradle to mount the motor on....i dont really think it would be that hard....but im a glutton for punishment anyways.....other than the exorbitent cost of a viper v10

the funny thing is, i went down to this little storage area that my college has. and low and behold there were 5 viper motors all sitting on top of this shelf deally. I actually would have been able to grab them if chrysler didn't want them destroyed. imagine what you could do with 5 viper engines.

i would use one as my winshield wiper motor.

I'm putting an Olds. 455 in my Firebird, however if I could do it all over again I wouldn't put an Olds. 455 in my Firebird. To many compatability issues to work out. It's so darn time consuming, which is something I don't have enough of. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to drop that V-10 in it. It's a GREAT motor, no question, but you could make more power, cheaper, from a 454 and wouldn't have to mess with all the funky stuff you know you're going to have to mess with. Motor mounts, trans. mounts, engine bay space, etc. That's my 2 cents.

I would imagine all the issues of a viper motor would be similar to stuffing a big block under the hood, although that motor is hellaciously long...

hmm... If an LS1 engine is such a pain to get in a 3rd gen I don't even want to know what a v10 swap would be like...

sure would be nice to be able to mock ppl's v8's though... lol

For less money you could build a mean aluminum big block engine. Probly cost you less to beef up your car with a new tranny, new rear, ton of susp. work, and build an aluminum BBC then the viper motor alone. By the way, how much would an aluminum big block weigh as apposed to a normal cast iron SBC, lets say both are mild with aluminum heads. now a healthy-wild alumimum BBC in a thirdgen would definitly be more interesting then a viper IMO.

You could build a really wild sbc for $12,200 (from scoggin dickey) w/o all the hassels of fitting it in there.

Good idea! Only problem is that I don't have welding gear. Could I use JB steel weld instead?

Sure, you can use JB Weld, that stuff holds anything. But I think it would probably be cooler to weld 2 Viper V-10's together and put them in the bed of a Duelly. You would be able to pop wheelies in that thing.
