2.8 to 350 carb help needed asap

Ok, I'm in the middle of the swap right now. I have a few problems though.

1. What kind of issues would I have if I disconnected the ECM?

2. If I disconnect the ECM, will I have to use a different fuel pump relay?

3. Where do the wires run from the oil pressure sending unit and the alternator? (Friends helping got wire cutting crazy on me)

I'm working on an 89 RS 2.8 mpfi. I'm putting in a 350, holley dual feed. The new engine is in, now it's just a matter of electrical wiring and fuel. Also, it looks like I'm going to run into some serious hood clearance problems. Anyone know where I can get a cheap cowl hood? Thanks.

what type of ign. system are you using?trans?
#1 depends on what you're doin with the car. mine is a strip down toy so i dont care about not using factory gauges or having to shift myself. the other problems are wiring ign. and what type of fuel pump you want to use

#2 i belive the fuel pump will prime but will not stay on with out the computer so you have to rewire the relay or do like i did and put in your own relay attached to a switch.

#3 not sure but large wire goes to bat pos. either directly or via a post. in the two wire connector the thicker one goes to bat pos. the other goes for the gauge.

rewire the fuel pump........I jumped the relay betwwen the back seats.......the oil pressure sending unit...I chucked it and run a mechanical gauge off the sender behind the distributer.....as for the hood.......harwood 2.5 quick fix $80 sunmmit....and you will need to wire L/U for your tc if you have an auto...are you using an adjustable 3 port fp regulator?

Can I modify the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment? I just ordered a mallory 3-port regulator. What did you do for the L/U? I'm probably just going to run a switch for it. Is that what you did?

yes you can bypass the relay there also...you have to jump the hot side to the fuse panel.(a keyed scorce) the pump will run all the time when the key is on.....even in a wreck...without a safety switch wired in...there are some posts on different methods, do a search on wiring fuel pump.....
I left my ECM in tact..it is still running L/U for me...go here for more info.....https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...ueswitch.shtml

also search that topic tons of info

Riley, would you recommend leaving the ecm intact? Would my only problem be that the engine light would be on all the time? I don't think I really wanna mess with having a switch for the Torque Converter, especially since I will probably let others drive it, possibly on the highway.

What did you do to fix your tach? I've read up on it and I have the necessary capacitor to fix it. I hate tearing apart dashes.....is this dash very hard to get apart?

I'm planning on using the pressure sending unit off of the 2.8. Will I have to rewire the fuel pump relay if I have the ecm and that sending unit?

Also, how high is that cowl that you put on? I'm running an edelbrock rpm manifold and a holley carb. Since I know I'm going to have to do something about hood clearance I think I'll run a spacer, too. I was looking online and found a hood I might get. It's the cheapest I've found so far. You can find it here: http://www.up22.com/camaro82.htm prod # C-485
It is a 4 3/4" cowl that uses pins. Do you think that is too high?

Thanks for all of your help.

I think the 4" cowel is too high for the street....the 2.5 gives you plenty of clearance and you can still see the pass side front .....
