2.8 Carb to 3.4 Carb?

I currently have a 2.8L V6 carb'd engine in my 1984 Firebird. I am thinking of going to a 3.4L V6.....though I am not sure what I would need to change on the 3.4 as I know those were all Fuel Injected..not carb'd. Would the carb and intake on the 2.8 be to restrictive on a 3.4? And would the computer need to be tweaked with the larger engine?

Any help would be great!

Check your other post. The 3.4 crate motors from GM are built to take a carb. The fi 3.4s, as far as I can recall, are all east-west engines. Your Camaro has a north-south.

What's this east-west and north-south thing?

East-west means front-wheel drive (the engine is mounted sideways).

North-south means rear-wheel drive.

To the best of my recollection, those efi 3.4 engines went into front-wheel drive vehicles only.

The GM 3.4 crate motors are for a rear-wheel drive application. The 3.4 was a noticeable improvement over the 2.8 that originally resided in my Jeep.

Yup, you are correct. There is at least one exception to that east-west rule. But, note that I did say, "as far as I can recall." I find myself saying "as far as I can recall" more and more.

Sooo....what if any difference is there with the 3.4 engine if it is mounted in a rear wheel drive car or a front wheel drive car?

Aside from the obvious drive train stuff....

Although I think parts like the intake mani are oriented differently, I can't give you a good answer to that one. There is one other vehicle that got an efi 2.8 and that is the Fiero. I remember reading another post that said if you take the efi intake mani off a Fiero and put it on a 2.8 Camaro, the inlet is pointed the wrong way. That is about the best I can do on this one. I guess if you are going to pick up some parts at a junkyard you need to at least mentally picture how that part will fit on your vehicle.

One other thing that I just remembered. I think those front-wheel drive efi 3.4s also had an aluminum head with canted valves. I think the block (as well as the head) is different because of the valve train geometry. Didn't Chevrolet put a dohc 3.4 in a Cavalier?

And, by the way, all of this is to the best of my (fuzzy) recollection.
