The LS6 is same engine block as the LS1, just different heads and cam. You are much better off getting a LS1 out of a Camaro and changing the heads and cam to make it a LS6. The LS1 and LS6 out a corvette have a different oil pan and accessories that won’t fit in a thirdgen. You are going to need to swap these over if you really wanted to use a stock LS6 out of a corvette. If you want to know how to put a LS1 in a thirdgen check out my sticky post at the top of this board LS1 Question and Answer

Air Adam must be a real deep old school guy!
I had the C5 Vette engines in my head when posting!
Dustin you are a naughty boy!LOL!
89 iroc , any new real world LS1 owner pages???
0-60, you might be right on the topic , but its gm lightest and newest thing around!
The idea was to swap most of the 4th gen futures ( even the vette hud) stuff like abs and asr into the 3gen

0-60 right on the topic !Haha, yes we also thing there is no more car to have than a nice blk iroc with that bone stock l98 or a blk GTA Notchback like mine HaHaHa!
Over here we like the Highway battles and weekend runs on the "ring"!
On special weekend the track is open to the public, that s like indy open for pro tour!
Now from that standpoint we love to work on our cars and mod them to crazy!
As many of our members i do have a special mule/track car to do so( my track ride sees max 1000km a year!)
The Ls6 idea came up cause one of my track buddy busted his right and got payed by insurance! I am still thinking to get the t-bone and get some inspiration what to do with it!

Well, if you've got the money and the know how (which you Germans are well known for
) you can do an LS6 swap. Be the same as an LS1 swap, for top speed runs I don't think it can be matched. I'd be a good idea to get a T-56 manual with the LS6. You'd need computer, retrofit wiring harness, and an LS1 oil pan. I'm sure someone, somewhere has done it, I'd talk to the LS1 swappers for more help.
Well we are working too..LOL!
I guess the clan or club whatever you wanna call it, is great help!
I dont wanna miss any of our men and its great not only when it comes to need a hand for cars!
As being raised in both new and old world i am more than pis...sed that our left wing goverment is not supporting to go to battle!
Some people and this is standart in this our hitech world have forgotten the 9 11 and wanna go back to avg life!
All our members will first rest when this Punk, who killed innocent people is dead!
Way back when the 82 Fbody rolled on the show room floor there was little tuning sold for these cars!
I remember reading hot rod and they always had those JBA and Ford Motorsports ad with bigger Brakes Quad shock stuff and so on, my thoughts then: why not for a Fbody???????
Due to my job i ride and owned all kinds of cars , from golf to benz to porsche to pick up to truck to rigg!
BUT STILL: when that gates opens and the nochback and the track car show up in sunlite , I know i love them more than all other cars i had!

A factory LS1 out of an F-body is much cheaper then a factory LS6 (which you have to get out of a corvette unless you want to buy it new which is $$$$)! The cheapest and most logical way by far is to get a complete LS1 engine and transmission out of a 98-02 (preferably 01 or 02) F-body and do a head and cam swap to make it a LS6. To put a corvette LS6 in a thirdgen you have to get the 4’th generation F-body LS1 oil pan and accessories as I said above and you will also have to rig up the electronic gas pedal. Also you will have to buy the transmission separate which just means more money.

iroc you are right with that ls1 cheaper thing!
I forgott about the pedal...mhmm!
As with all stuff thats getting into the mule: no air condition,no powerstrg, smog stuff kept but relocated and well thought over!
Can someone post a link like the
1. speartech swap! THIS IS TRUE CMS!NICE CAR!
Not to down the monte one but its a diff car!
There is a guy around here who did the ABS swap too!!!
Any news??
can someone supply pro or factory smog data??
The monte swap is quite impressive on Hp data, for the "few" stuff he has done??!!
If you look at the "less" tuned 11,74 of speartech i wonder if the boys from speartech left out some goodies on there menu????
Is there any fastest LS1/LS6 3gen in the 10s, without juice or blower??

I'd just go with an LS1... with the money (not to mention the trouble) you'd save over an LS6, you could have an LS1 with alot more power than an LS6.

LS1s can be had for about 4000-5000, LS6 can be had for about 6000-7000. The LS6 is a different block from the LS1, more than just heads and cam and intake to make an LS1 an LS6. LS6 heads and camshaft come up to about $2000 to make up the difference anyways, so it's the same price really. the LS1 oil pan can be found at a junkyard for cheap. I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern for the LS6 is the same as the LS1, so if you want to keep your TH700, they've got an adapter for it. An LS1 auto flywheel should work with that setup as well. But if he's got the money, let him do it. It'd be interesting.

The LS1 and the LS6 are the same block. Do some research. The ONLY difference between the LS1 and LS6 is the heads and cam (2001-2002 blocks) The 97-00 LS1's had a different intake then the LS6’s but in 2001 they started using the LS6 intake on the LS1's
Another note: all the links to the guys that have done the swap are in my post.

There are a couple of publications that you may want to check out. GM has a booklet entitled, "LS1 Engine Kit Installation Guide." Yes, GM does sell an LS1 kit (p/n 25534322).The p/n on my booklet is 88959384. At 36 pages, with a list price of $50.00 I have a hard time recommending it, but it is helpful.
GM was apparently thinking swap when it designed the LS1. The LS1 engine block has multiple bosses that can be used for custom engine mounts (it looks like GM did its homework and anticipated that this engine would go into a wide variety of vehicles). The booklet even has a template, with dimensions, to fabricate motor mount brackets.
The other publication is an article in the May 2002 issue of Chevy High Performance entitled, "Interchangeable LS1." While this article is limited in its coverage, it recommends that you get the GM publication. BTW, the January, 2002 issue of Hot Rod magazine has an article on how to add 59 horsepower to an LS1 (using an SLP cam kit, a high-flow LS6 intake mani and some basic head work).
Good luck.

Parrydise7 thanks for the info! I have to check our "club bookstore" for that issue of :May 2002 issue of Chevy High Performance !
The booklet was new to me!
Got a harness today morning from a 99 LS1 Z28 and the ecu!
Had to drink and talk and drink with a buddy also a clubmember
and promised to help him with his ls1 swap when he got the money and a offer!COOOOLLLLL!
Pic below is what i got, need to tag all sensors and then check the ecu numbers!ECU: HDW NO. 16220610 CWJP
The harness is pretty short, i would advice new part buyers to take the "longer Harness" option alot companies offer!

I have heard that some people have mounted the ECM under the hood so the length may not be that big of a deal but I have heard no one confirm or deny that the ECM is water tight. Need to look into that. Does that ECM have a water tight connector on it?

I just checked p/n 88959384 at gmpartsdirect.com and the p/n is good (price: $34.97).
I looked in the booklet regarding the ECM. It refers to a PCM (powertrain control module). Is that the same thing? Assuming it is, I couldn't find anything about the PCM being weatherproof. The best I can do is the following, "For comprehensive information on the engine control system...refer to the 1998 Camaro/Firebird Service Manual...." My guess, based on a photo in the booklet and the length of the various wires, is that the PCM goes in the passenger compartment.
BTW, on the subject of the oil pan, a photo shows that the Corvette is noticeably different from the Camaro/Firebird pan. There is a third pan from the truck engine, p/n 12560393 that will also work. All three pans take a different oil pump pickup.

I can't find anything about the weight of the LS1, but I seem to recall someone claiming that it would take 110 pounds off the front end of a Camaro. If I remember, I'll call Scoggin-Dickey on monday and ask about the shipping weight.
BTW, if you have all kinds of money, and that LS1 just isn't powerful enough, there is a way to build an engine with a bit more power. Check out engine block p/n 12480030. This block has the same external dimensions as the LS1, but will allow you to build a 427 (or larger). All the standard LS1 parts will bolt on this engine, but for the greatest performance potential, GM recommends racing heads, p/n 12480090.

Are you talking about the Corvette R block (the track corvette) This is the same engine block John Lingenfelter uses in there 8.9 sec corvette. That block must cost a pretty penny.
Hahaha, went to school loooong, worked for gm and again school..then it was time to get some cash going!
When i joined the brotherhood it started to roll.....we stick together something rare in this hitech world so we pick up great deals ......
100pds is what someone stated in the suspension forum, worried that his new springs want do sh--it cause the car is head--lite!
will check the numbers and will read in mags in the next weeks...
we have so many projects going that i sometimes need to set tuffer goals, what to do next!
our clubspot is full of cars to take care of so like the ls1 thing i need to wait for a clear spot....

Yup, that's the one. $6,000 at gmpartsdirect.com (it lists for $8571.43). And those racing heads are $1155.00 each ($1650 list). It makes an LS1/LS6 bare block look cheap at $1155.00.

Just my opinion:
I plan to do the LS1 swap (one of these days, when I get some dough). You'll find that the LS1 is a LOT cheaper and more available then the LS6. But if you still want it, get a used one of ebay (note: this is my plan), you can get a good price. Try to get one thats 2000+ because they have the LS6 intake manifold (memeber: only differences between LS1 and LS6 is the intake, the heads, and cam). Remember, if you get one off ebay, make sure it includes all belt driven accessories, ecm (computer), and wiring harness). When you get, strip it down, clean it up, and upgrade it how you want. As far as transmissions: If you want to stay with the stock one, you would defiently need to upgrade it! It will not last long with the increased power, especially if you mod the crap outta it. The T-56 (manual) or 4L60E (auto) will be a better choice. Just my imput. You can find the rest of the stuff that you'll need to change listed in the sticky's above (ie: wiring harness, transmission cross bar, ect).
