305 TBI to 350 TBI

Hi, I have a 91 RS with a 305. Blew a head gasket and figured since I'll be ripping half the motor apart, might as well put in a 350 I had lying around.

The 350 is a 85 block.

From what I've read everything will jut swap right over but the flywhee. Do I need a pre 86 flywheel??

also, computer wise...Will the stock computer be ok for the next dew days till i get a chip???

I can just use a 350 chip in my 305 computer, right?

At what point is a good time to upgrade my fuel system??

Brian

You'll need a pre-85 flywheel.

You'll also need a 350 ESC and Knock sensor.

Otherwise it's pretty straightfoward. Get a AFPR unit so you can bump up the fuel pressure until you get 350 injectors.

Yeah if it's a fairly mild 350 you can just throw in the 9C1 caprice prom in your ecm. Although if you stick with your stock injectors you're going to be starving the engine of fuel. If you can pick up the 9C1 chip along with the cop car 65# injectors then that'd be the easiest and best way to support the power. As for upgrading the fuel system beyond that, it really isn't necessary unless you're pushing some huge horsepower numbers, just do the ultimate tbi mods on your stock unit and add the 65# injectors and you're set to go.

I built a 350 for my car. I'm using the 305 injectors and chip. It runs great. This spring I'm going to try some bigger injectors to see if it will help the higher rpm. When you get a chip make sure it's programmed for all the options like cruise etc. I'm making 300 hp and 375 lbs of torque. The stock injectors are 45 so maybe the 55 would be good enough. I bought some bigger ones but they were way too big. I'm going to find out what size they are.

I had the chip progged for 65# injectors. Didn't buy any injectors yet, But I hear those are the good ones to go with.

Yeah the 65# injectors are the good ones to go with. Pontiacman, what kind of fuel pressure are you running with those stock 305 injectors, if you really are pushing that kind of horsepower I would think that you are running way lean up top. I've heard of a few guys in the past running stock injectors with a decent 350 and they had it seemingly running good but it was actually running really lean in higher rpm but they didn't know it and that's pretty dangerous if you ask me. If I were you I would get some much bigger injectors if you have that kind of power, it should run better and if anything else provide you with some insurance to keep enough fuel flow for you. This is just my opinion on the subject. I don't know your setup maybe you're running a vafpr and a lot of fuel pressure.
