THe L03 and LG4 are both 305s, and both are the bottom model V8 in their respective years. They have the same cam. Heads are different: L03 ones are terrible and hopeless, LG4 ones while terrible in stock form are at least workable.

LG4 heads are ALOT better than L03 heads
Lo3 heads are garbage, while LG4 heads are very close to L98 heads flow-wise

You will get vastly better results if you fix the other bottlencks of the L03: the exhaust, all the way from teh heads to the street; and the "peanut" cam; and do a mild porting job (bowl cleanup above all else) to the heads.
For exhaust, get a chassis-specific system for one of these cars, but not for the L03; I'd suggest looking up the one for a 88 350 TPI. You'll need the headers with their Y-pipe, a high-flow cat, and a cat-back exhaust, none of which will be compatible with any of the L03 stuff that's there now. Every piece of that needs to go in the trash.

cool thnks I have the headers and y pipe on order already I already have a flomaster cat back. I dont know what cam yet. The bottom end of the motor was redone 15,000mi ago. new crank rods and pistons. the top end has 124000mi on it but they dont matter anyway since Ill out the LG4 heads on the have 40000 on them. and itll be carbed by the rochester or an edelbrock 750 thnks
