3rd gen engine into a 4th...

I have a 94 3.4l firebird (standard) will my current tranny bolt up to a 350? Is there any other problems you people know of in this swap besides the distributer cap?

You'll need a whole new computer setup. Lord knows what else. Best thing to do is find a junk V-8 car and swap in an LT1 or LS1. I wouldn't bother installing an engine out of a thirdgen into one of those cars.

Also if you have to pass emissions testing you are not likely to be able to do it with a older engine in that car.

You are better off doing an LT1 or LS1 swap beause those engines are native to that car. You will have a better time finding parts, etc.

No your trans will not bolt up; at least, the bell housing won't. There will be a few other parts that are different besides the distributor cap. Exhaust systems come immediately to mind as an example.

You can just about put anything into anything, with enough money and effort. Whether you can do something else better for less money, is another matter entirely. Whether it will pas emissions inspection in your locale is yet another.

Not to mention you will have clearance issues with the distributor. On the LT1's the 'Optispark' is on the front of the motor compared to being up top (and in the back) on a TPI car.

Now, if you are going to go with a carb setup, that's a different story.

SCCA A-sedan racers who run 4th gens are required to run a carbed 305...if that helps at all.

I agree, the LT1's are a pain in those cars, I cannot imagine a distributor in there also. I would say, grab an LT1.

Why? That seems a little harsh...

To keep parity between 4th gens, 3rd gens, and mustangs. the mustangs have to run a 302. It's just the rules...
