Painless Lt1 Harness $600 Dolar...any Other Good Options?

I just checked the price on an lt1 harness for the lt1 I just got for my car. It is a 96 lt1 out of an ss camaro. Got it for 1100 with only 55000 miles on it but I dont have the money too spend 600 dollars for a painless wiring harness. Anybody know of any other good maker of the harness that is reasonably easy and labled like the painless? Any help would be nice

The best harness to get is the Speartech one, but it is $700.00.
I don't have the money for one so I am just going to mod the one that came with my 95 LT1.

$600??? I paid $345....but mine is for OBD1 and a T56. First thing you should do is call Painless and ask them the part number of the harness they recommended for your particular swap. Then search around all over the place for prices. www.musclemotors.com and www.summitracing.com are the cheapest I found but that was almost a year ago. I think there harness is great. It's what I used. I understand the Speartech one is more idiot proof though.

Send me your harness, I'll put little stickers on it to tell you what each wires is:

I'll only charge you 299$ !!!

Do it yourself, get a service manual and rewire the stock one.

if you don't have a harness, buy one of ebay for 50-70$...

Modding the stock harness is starting to sound better and better. I didnt get one when I bought the engine so I guess I will try to find one of ebay or something. How much would one be if I bought one from the chevy dealership?

Also on another note. I just rebuilt my 700r4 and I know Im gonna need a new throttle body from a 93 lt1 and also a new tv cable. Is this just a regular swap or am I gonna need any new sensors or anything different on the wiring harness?

Any help would be nice... trying to do some research on this swap before I dive too far into it.

There's a few relay that you will have to buy or make

for instance, you can use the fuel relay from the 3rd gen without any problem if you're car what anything else then carb (since they use mecanical fuel pump)

also, the lt1 works with 2 radiator fans, you could always use the one that came with the 3rd gen but I recommend using the one for the 4th gen since it's the right design for the engine.

You'll need an air-pump relay. or you'll have to fabricate a dummies that acts like the relay (that's what I did).

as for the sensors, something I noticed, people get engine swap without the intake elbow, you'll need the sensor of that elbow, it's called "AIT sensor".

Make sure you get the VATS Passkey box II as these are expensive. or get the tools to edit the ECM.

other then that you should be good to go , also, the 700r4 connector has 4 pins and the lt1 used a 5 pins connector, you'll need to repin it correctly in order for it to work.

What you said in regard of the tv cable and 93 trottle body is true.
You maybe need the cable retainer that bolts to intake manifold since late lt1 models came without tv cable, I'm not sure about this info so check it out.

I appreciate your help. I do a search all the time and some things arent the same variable as in my project. Like as of yet I have not found very many who could help me with the trannie question. What kind of pins do these wires work with... Like what is the wires used for on my trannie? Also does anyone know of anyone trying to sell a factory harness? It is a 96 lt1 out of an "SS" camaro. I wont need any smog accesories since I live in alabama. Any help is appreciated.

Actually, it's the IAT sensor, Intake Air Temperature.
Don't want anyone to be confused if they need to buy one.

well check on www.camaroz28.com , they have a classifieds section and I see ecm always selling there for cheap.

as per the connector on the tranny, I'm not sure but I think it's for the torque converter lock-up and I think it tells your ecm if you're on overdrive. not sure, check the transmission and drivetrain section .

SAD NEWS

Hello everyone. I just got home (its 12:27 a.m.) I have been in the emergency room since 8 tonight. I was crossing an intersection tonight when I was on a date with my girlfriend when a drunk driver ran a red light and t-boned us. He was goin 65 when he hit me......Hit me in the right rear of my car slung me around into oncoming traffic and I got nailed in the front. I know the car is totaled because they couldnt get me out without cutting the door. My door was stuck shut and as for my girlfriend she was knocked out when she hit her head on my shoulder but she had no injuries except some bruises. I ended up hitting my head on the window and cracked my head. I am not gonna be able to drive for another 4 months because of injuries. I have been saving up some money for my lt1 swap and some other things and will be getting my dream car soon. A 79 trans am 6.6 4spd. When I woke up and realized about my car I about cried because that has been the one thing I have spent every lil bit of money on and poured my heart into. I will sencerely miss my baby. I will not leave this forum because of how wonderful everyone is. Everyone......take it easy when drinking. Hand the keys to someone else. If I had crossed that intersection a split second earlier, my girlfriend would not be here anymore. Sorry for the long post and everyone have a good night.

Daniel

Sorry to hear the bad news. Glad you pulled through. I hope your injuries heal quickly. I once lost my 76 Camaro the same way because of a maulfunctioning traffic light so I know how you feel.
