alternator bracket problems
hey i was wanting to know if anyone else has had the same problem as me...ok i have early 462 camel hump heads and i am running nothing in the line of accesories, just water pump and alternator and i was wondering if any sort of alternator bracket is made to mount the alternator low (as it is the only place to put it) that works with the long water pump
thanks
thanks

I don't know if iit will clear the hood (I don't see why it wouldn't) but summit or jegs sells a cheapie bracket for like $12 that mounts onto the block and puts the alternator high (like where the AC condenser is). It is really just a stick with a bolt hole but I know ppl that have run 'em for years and neverhad a problem.

thats great but...if it has to be mounted in the heads, then i am screwed...462's do not have accessory holes in then, nor any spot to drill/tap thanks, john

Why not just check out ebay or something for some pre-1969 brackets? They usually bolt to the water pump, not the heads.

If you are good with tools, you could just make your own brackets with some heavy metal... like maybe 3/16" thick steel?
My cousin did a similar thing a couple times... he made some brackets for the tail lights and the rear licence plate on his '52 Ford and they look almost aftermarket they are so good. It was 3/16" thick steel IIRC.
He also made me and EGR block off plate out of aluminum, for my 4bbl manifold.
Far as I know, all he used to make them was a Dremel tool, a hacksaw and a file, and I guess a drill too for the bolt holes.
It really doesn't seem to be too hard, but I haven't tried it much myself.
