305 TPI to 350 carb.. how to get fuel?
ok i know the best thing to do would be to drop the fuel tank but i have no time and patience and i need to know how to deliver fuel to my carb. the stock fuel pump i know pumps way too much fuel. whats the best way to knock it down. Should I setup a seperate fuel pump and regulator outside the tank and just draw fuel through the old stock pump or just run a regulator off the stock pump.

wahoo
I just finished my swap... now we're on fine tuning..
We hooked up a pump on the 350 and draw the fuel through the stock fuel return line. We found pulling fuel through the pump was impossible.
Once we cut out a bunch of wires we didnt need anymore the fuel pump relay was taken out so my pump in the tank is in essence dead. We just plugged off that line.

you will have to tap into the old fuel pump wiring to supply power to it. I have it hooked up on a switch. Mine uses the stock TPI pump and I have a Mallory 5 port regulator with the factory return and inlet hooked up and regulated down to 6.5psi. this works great, been running it for about 2 years now. As you can see from my times and MPH, the stock 350 TPI pump delivers plenty of fuel.

thanx for the replies. In fact I have already mounted a switch for the pump and am currently taking the tedious time of goin through all the wires and finding which ones are for the pump. I will use the mallory 5 port regulator. thanx

If it helps, I went from 305 TPI to a 350 carb, and the wire to power the fuel pump was tan for me. On the drivers side, where the relays are, there is a big bundle of wires. The tan one that went into the car was the one to power the fuel. One way to find it would be to locate the fuel pump relay, or the oil pressure switch. I believe the wire runs to both of those.

thanx for the help. I would go with mini ram or ram jet but that wont fit into the buget... also Im wondering if ne who has done this before jus cut out all the TPI wires or left them. Im also having to go through and figure out what the primary hot wire is for the ignition is Im planning on using the stock ingnition to supply power and then from there run all my swithces for my pump, fans, and a push button start. any help on where to locate the primary wire for the ignitoin would be helpful.
I used a underhood wiring harness out of a Carb'd Fbody, and took the old wiring harness and computer out. Do not cut it up...it would be a shame. As far as the primary wire for the ignition, I am at a loss there. Maybe it is the same as the one that runs to the distributor. I had a Chiltons and it had wiring diagrams in the back...I highly reccomend that if you do not already have it.

I cut every wire I didn't need. And there were many. I kept the ignition wires, starter wires, alternator wires, and the power wires that went from the battery to the fuse panel. I rewired both fans, and the fuel pump into their own relays. That is the only wiring I kept. I was still able to sell the whole TPI intake, plus the cut up harness for $575 on eBay. GM used an astronomical amount of wire that was not needed. They went from the source, across the car 3 times, then to the final spot. If you watch what your doing, and mark the one you want to keep, you should be fine.

yep John thats exactly the road im going down. I'm using the old relays and wiring them up and am makring the wires i want to keep. And your right they did run across the car too many damn times (we can blame smog laws for the bullsh*t parts they put on it) And I have a chiltons and haynes manual but both dont list the primary wire for the ignition

Primary wire for ignition? The one to the dist.?, or to engage the starter? Mine was the big pink one for the switched 12v to the dist, and big purple to engage the starter. I went around my VATS under the dash. I didn't use the factory relays either. My dad got some Bosch relays, and I used those instead. The factory ones were just to confusing for me to figure out.
About your T-5 holding up...I ran one for 18mos behind my combo, and I was very hard on it. They are tougher than people think. If you can shift, it will last for quite a while...most people who tear them up can not shift. Then it just needed a 3rd gear syncro. Check this place out. www.gforcetransmissions.com I just seen one of their T-5's go 10.30 in a mustang last night at 135mph launching at 7000rpm!!! WOW is all I got to say.

Mines holding up, but it won't shift anymore if I'm above 4k rpm. After it drops down it will go into gear. Yes I'm using the clutch!
just check out my settup on my car domain site
i ran braided lines the length of the car and used a mallory 3 port return style regulator
everything is simple one feed line one return and one continuing on to a fuel filter and then to the carb
i have my old stock pump hooked up to the battery with a switch
there is a prime clip wire about 6 inches from the fuel pump relay
if you would like i can take a pic of that for you
i just ran a wire from my battery to a switch and from the prime clip to the switch and when im in my car i just turn it on
i have a holly 750 and i have the pressure set for just 4.5 when im on the road and 5.5 on the strip
take a look at my car domain site i have pics there of the regulator and stuff
good luck
matt
i live in nj if you need any help

wow thanx for all the feedback.. and thanx matt for the pictures (and the variable pressure idea is excelent I didnt think about that). I do have alot of experience with using the clutch. The 5spd in my Jeep is the hardest thing to drive aorund here. The countershaft is going out and down shifting is impossible I have to be perfect. ne ways the factory relays are confusing so I might go ahead and purchase aftermarket relays. but the sad part about all of this is I cant do ne thing else to the project until I sell my Jeep and get some money to complete the engine. And i was thinking about the g force kit Ill have to work awhile until I can upgrade the T-5. Im using some of the money to beef up my rear end instead of the tranny.
