91 Corvette L98 into 91 RS
I have looked through just about every post that I could find regarding L98 and engine swaps, but cannot find the info I am looking for.
I am sure that someone out there has tried to put a 90/91 Corvette L98 into a 91 Camaro. I need all the info I can get. I have the engine on the way and have a lot of questions about the swap but don't want to burden everyone with a lot of stuff that is already available.
Any references or insight will be appreciated.
I have read a here and other places that the L98 TPI intake really puts a squeeze on performance by limiting the amount of air that can enter the engine, therefore reducing the potential horsepower and RPM attainable otherwise. Any information about that issue would be helpful as well, to include how to overcome it.
I think I will be happy with the stock HP/Torque, but just in case I'm not, how would I go about getting around 325 HP.
Thanks
BTW, this is for a 91 RS that was donated to me by my stepfather. I would really like to make good use of it.

The L89 you have is the same one that comes in camaros and
trans ams, except for the aluminium heads.
You could change the camshaft, add roller rockers, 1 5/8 headers,
3" Y pipe, and free flowing muffler.
Also get the heads ported and polished.. depending on the cam selection, I think U have your 325 HP.

Well to overcome the limits of TPI....change it. HSR, SuperRam, miniram, or LT1 converted intake are all options. They all should just bolt up to the heads no problem, depending on what year heads you have. If you want around 325hp, definitely change the cam and get the heads ported and polished. I like the LT4 hot cam and with some new springs and 1.6RR's it would wake up that L98....but i'd advise going with HSR or super ram to allow your engine to pull more up top with that cam. Some headers and 3" exhaust should definitely put you in reach of your goal. Have fun

Thanks for the input guys. Two other quick questions. How does the L98 respond to stroker kits? At what point do I start being concerned about having 2-bolt main caps?
Thanks

Stroker kits will make any engine liven up....especially if you keep TPI on it. You'll have some pretty impressive torque numbers with a stroker and TPI. Just make sure you check for clearancing between the rods and camshaft lobes...those are prone to hitting if you run to big of a cam. If they do, just grind the rod down a little and you'll be set. As far as power concerns with a 2 bolt; you'll be fine. If you start going crazy with power I would invest in some ARP main cap studs and maybe some billet caps. But honestly I have only heard of the bottom end ripping out of a 2 bolt if:1) it wasn't built right or 2) the power output was around...say 900hp or more. So I am pretty sure you will be fine for now....just get some better studs if you tear it down. It's cheap peace of mind now matter how much power you have.

The engine isnt entirely the same. The accessories mount differently (I do not know if this creates any sort of problem... use your own, and you'll have to tap a hole in one of the heads, passenger side IIRC), and the fuel lines connect on the passenger side rather than driver side on a Vette. Not sure what you'd do there either, but it does present a problem because you have to find a way to run the lines to the other side of the car. There's also the whole EGR issue, so if you want to retain the EGR, you'll have to hook up the tube that runs from the rear of the intake by the distributor to the passenger side exhaust. There's some other minor differences that dont matter.

I have looked into this a little more and believe I have decided to keep all the Corvette accessories and install an AJE Racing K-Member and rack and pinion unit. I have already been messaging them and think this is going to be my best bet.
The issue I have now is that I may have to replace the wiring harness with a longer version to be able to move the computer to the stock Camaro mounting location. Someone suggested to me to just find a place in the engine compartment for the ECM since it is the 'weather pack' version, but I don't know if I like that idea. Even with a longer harness, I may have some trouble getting the ECM mounted in the stock location due to a difference is size/shape.
BTW, thanks for the help.
