swapping 305 out for 350 need suggestions
Im a first time engine builder and im wanting more power out of my iroc. first of all i have a 69 - 80 350. thats all i know about. Im about to go to the machine shop with it.
First question is can i have it modified for a roller cam and lifters?
what cam would you recommend for a street/strip car. im talking something that i could daily drive if i wanted to.
i've put it into desktop dyno and its given me nice numbers, but i can't understand how. i have the comp cams extreme energy 276hr in it. is that too big? i need the vaccuum for power brakes and such
I'm only 19 so i dont make all that much money but i was going to use the cast vortec heads for this engine with edelbrock rpm air gap vortec intake manifold with a holley 600cfm throttle body. does this sound like a good setup?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey 87CIZ, The same has been performed on my car. The tranny was swapped out. My engine is from an 1969 Camaro. Originally had the 305. Wasn't TPI tho. Anywho, You'll find you won't have many options for accessories. All I have is Power Steering, and thats it. Got the short water pump. Goes like a **** tho. I've got a TH350 tranny. Wanted a stick, But man This thing handles her good. The engine mounts were out of a Blazer, I believe to be an older Blazer. Not sure about things ligning up to ur tranny, as mine was dropped in as a set. Anyway, the rear end was replaced, and Pretty much its a new drive train. Sorry I can't give you more a story, I've heard that If you are gonna put in more power, either the tranny or the rear end, or both. Will blow out within a matter of weeks. But there are exceptions to every rule right? Anyway good luck

well i have a 6 speed out of a 95 camaro that is going in. and the rearend is a 9 bolt with a 3.45 gear. (Try finding a gasket for one of those in an auto parts store) SO im not to worried about that part of it. but i want the efficiency of a newer block but without buying a new block.
btw the auto i have is my daily driver the one im putting all the stuff in is a 5 speed. it originally had a 305 tbi engine

From what I've heard, The older (Mine) 350's are just awesome. And the newer Fuel Injected ones are great too. Everything else is just sorta average

DDD tends to be a little optimistic.
Peak power is at 5500 RPMs. You don't need roller lifters for that.
But, if you want roller lifters, you need to go with retrofit parts. You don't "modify" the engine for rollers, you install rollers. What you get won't look anything like the factory set-up, and you can't use any of the factory set-up type parts. The cam must be designed as a roller, the retrofit lifters will be connected in pairs with a bar of some kind (there are different types) and drop right in. About the only "special" thing is you need a cam button. Follow the cam/lifter supplier's recommendations for pushrods.

what size cam do you recommend for daily driving? I want something that offers good performance with decent mileage.
