need help with 400 swap

ok heres the deal, i got a 1985 camaro rs for a real good deal. it has a 2.8 . so i was told that i would be able to put a v8 in it, so i desided to get a 400 sb, but i got ahead of my self and didnt realise i had no idea what i was going to need for the swap, like ... can i use my stock auto tranny, can i use my stock intank fuel pump? i think i can if i use a fuel pressure regulator. what do i need to do about engine mounts? etc................. i looked all around the board but i didnt see much to help me, im a newbe at this big chevy stuff, so go eassy on me, i usualy do swaps on ford escorts. im moving up, so if you have anny info that will help me it would be greatly apreciated.

I know you'll need bigger fuel lines you may be able to use the fuel pump but Im not sure and I think the mounts would be the same as the 305/350

the guys on here are very smart someone will have the answers for you

The 400 is the same externally as any other small block V8 such as the 305. Its mounts, accessories, etc. will be the same. It will require an "unbalanced" flex plate and harmonic balancer. See the balancer in my pic in one of the other 400 threads on this board.

It will not fit your trans; you'll ned a V8 one. The fuel pump might work, with a Mallory 3-port regulator; I'd recommend getting rid of it and using a carb fuel tank setup and a block-mounted mechanical fuel pump.

I am absolutely positive.

Being freshly rebuilt isn't the problem. That won't keep it from bolting up to a V8. The bolt pattern on the bell housing will however.

Zero.

The bell housing isn't a separate piece; it's part of the case.

I'm with RB83L69, on the carb fuel tank set-up. Some people cringe at the prospect of dropping the tank but if you install a carb fuel tank set-up, it should be the last time you ever drop the tank. Think about it a minute. With the carb pickup, you can run your carb set up and it allows you to use any of the great external mount fuel injection pumps from the aftermarket like the ones from Aeromotive should you decide to go back to fuel injection. They can deliver all your fuel needs for what ever your engine combination will ever be. I just don't know why more people don't go this route. Then you don't worry ever having to drop the tank again, if your fuel needs change.
