What year LT1 for swap?
Yea, I did a search, got some info.
So 93-95 was SD
95 is the best
93 is bad
96+ are harder to tune?
Does anyone know the exact difference between all the years? Like why are the 96+ harder to tune?
Can the 96+ be tuned with the proper software/equip?
What years had the best computer performance wise, not ease of tuning, but allowed the best tuning.

93's used a prom just like 3rd gens.
94 and 95 models used OBD1 which is very responsive to mods and many people convert to it.
96 and 97 models had OBD2 which is more touchy to mods however it is easier to diagnose problems.
94 and 95 cars had the largest cam and 95 up used the vented opti spark. Other than that they are pretty much all the same and any one year can be converted to OBD1. Personally that is why I bought my 95 Z. I wanted the venti opted and the biggest cam and OBD1.
96 and 97 cars had a smaller cam but came with a better exhaust which gave them a boost in power numbers. But you will be using your 3rd gen exhaust so i would go for a 95 or a 96/97 and convert it to OBD1.

How much is it to convert to OBD1? My boss at work has datalogging and tuning software.
He runs this on the 94 LT1 he has in his vette.

He has 2 of those, I might take the 2nd off his hands in the future.
I'm not sure if he has a 93 or a 94 LT1. He has a cable that runs from the ignition, he connects it to his computer, and types in the fuel tables. He just got new windows software with datalogging as opposed to the old DOS he was using.
I plan on watching him tune his car, in hopes that down the road when I build myself and LT1 I can do it myself.

I'd say to go w/ a 94-95 lt1. All my research points right to either of these motors. One thing I like about the 95 is the vented opti-spark. But I do believe there is a way to convert to the vented opti. Let me also recommend www.speartech.com for the wiring harness and computer programing.

If you are talking about Lt1's from a B-body, they had vented opti's from '94 on up. Also, '93 F-body Lt1's were speed density and '94 on up were mass-air.

The 94/95 are the best years IMO because they are MAF and OBDI. If you need a LT1 I have a drop in conversion up for sale.

What were the differences in a 1994 Caprice LT1 engine versus a 1994 LT1 engine in a Camaro?
I ran across a '94 LT1 from a Caprice w/ 40K miles for $1,100. No wiring harness or computer.
Different heads and cam?
Thanks
Matt

The cam was smaller and had less LSA and the heads were iron. For that price you can get on out of an F-body. Keep looking.
